Re: The Story Behind Mass Effect: Andromeda's Troubled Five-Year Development

90% mp 10% sp.  It is what it is.

So you really think they are going to ignore entirely the group of people that don't like online grinding? That actually like the story and adventure?

  • Just calling it like I and so many others see it.  SP 'patching' have ignored a lot of the big bugs people have had.  Adding a romance option and making it so you can change your appearance later in the game etc. is not really a patch.  Not to mention that every new patch that comes out introduces new bugs for people.  As I said, it is what it is and the article points out why the game gets barely above a 4 average from users on metacritic.  You don't like my opinion?  Move on.

I have no problem with your opinion, do you have one with my mine?

Still, I like facts, and fact is that the game got as many patches for SP as for MP.

And yet again, no other source or collaboration from another news source. While I'm not going to say it didn't have  any problems, we got a good game that is playable and that the developers are still working on with patches.

The true disasters of game studios are the ones that are 10+ years in the making with three different companies worth of work and restarts.

So your opinion is simply that because kokatu wrote it, it must therefore be wrong.

Bioware will NEVER tell you the truth behind why the game was so badly mismanaged.

No company ever does that.  In order to find the truth you either need a public enquiry or a journalist.

And a public enquiry usually only gives you a different kind of truth.

No. There are usually multiple sides to a story and sometimes people have an ax to grind. You take it as a single source of information. But this sort of story and situation they are stating you get a lot of leaks. The fact we are not actually tells me something, that this is probably one or two people that only talk to Kokatu. It may be the truth as they see it, but they may be upset that their idea wasn't followed or that they got laid off/fired for some reason.

Whilst I agree that we should always triangulate various sources of information, in the case of EA/Bioware, there hasnt been any official announcement.  In fact one of the official tidbits I heard was that EA was actually happy with Bioware for MEA.  Denial?  In such a situation, I would say between a politically correct statement vs Kotaku's article, I am leaning towards the latter.

It is the fact that there are no other stories or reports that collaborate Kokatu's side that makes me wary. Like I said, it may be the truth as the person(s) they talked to see it, but that is only one side of the story and could very much be a bit tainted.

You make a fair point. It is just one story, written in a reasonable and convincing style. Nothing that confirms this other than that it is plausible considering what happened.

I also read the twitter comment from EA about BW but perhaps it's back to the same old problem: communication.

Why, with all that's been going on, have they failed to comment at all on what's coming for ME:A or not in the wake of EA Play and the E3? Surely they can see that there are people still enjoying the game but at the same time the questions about the future of ME:A keep coming.

I do not understand that they haven't at least hinted at something just to let us know that indeed ME:A has not been abandoned. It seems to me that right now regular communication, even just as damage control but more to the point with the aim of customer retention, would be a good strategy?

What are we missing here that makes silence on the topic logical or even sensible? Well, since people don't know, they go with what they can imagine...and one thing that is plausible is that there is not DLC coming. Single sided story or not, we have no other side of the story and therein lies the problem.

  • Um, people have stated that EA has a different communication's policy than Bioware had back in the day. That's the reasonable explanation right there.
