Re: Unable to locate configuration file

@holger1405 Yes I did, interestingly enough, C:\Users\Carl\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect Legendary Edition only contains a save folder, launcherconfig.cfg and trilogygamerprofile

it does not contain the game's config file or, a folder called config.

But, for the regular ME games, the documents folder does contain BIOgame/config with, everything you'd expect to see

C:\Users\Carl\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect 2\BIOGame\Config

There is PCConsoleTOC.bin file.

Yes, in the old games the "Documents" folder was the standard folder for the "Config" folder.

I thought that the game might have got back to Momm if it had a problem creating the folder in your "BIOGame" folder in the game folder.

Search your PC for the "GamerSettings.ini" file. If you have the original games installed you should have 5 of them.

The two for the original ME2 & ME3 and three for the MELE. (If you have started LE3 already)

Wherever the "GamerSettings.ini" file is, your "Config" folder should be there as well.

  • @holger1405 Yeah already did that, the only GamerSettings.ini files are for the regular ole mass effect games, nothing regarding the legendary edition which makes me wonder if this is a EA desktop subscription sorta thing, similarly to how Microsoft's game pass has their installs, which are sometimes, similarly nebulous.

The files in the "Config" folder are created from the "Coalesced_INT.bin". (or the local equivalents.)

(If you delete the "Config" folder it is just recreated from the settings in the "Coalesced_INT.bin".)

So it is possible that the game reads directly from the"Coalesced_INT.bin" if it can't find a "Config" folder

It is also possible that the EA Play subscription version has a different file structure, I just saw no other reports about the "Config" folder missing, neither here nor on the Nexus.

    What about a "BIOWeapon.ini"?

  • @holger1405 I do have Coalesced_INT.bin

I also have BIOWeapon, BIOGame and BIOEngine.

Out of curiosity I decided to attempt to create a config folder, in the proper location, and I was told I needed administration permission to do so.

I am now wondering if the issue is, the game cannot create the folder itself. I am going to reinstall the game on another drive, and see if this is the problem.

Yeah, it had to be there, without it the game would not work.

    Is that "BIOWeapon.ini?"

If yes, in what folder is it?

I assumed from the start that some permission isuue is the problem, the "C:\Program Files (x86)" and "C:\Program Files" folder have special protection inside Windows.
    (It normally still should work.)
That is why I said it might be possible that the game reads directly from the "Coalesced_INT.bin", or the language variants if you play the game in a different language than English, if it can't find a "Config" folder.

Installing it to another drive could very well solve the problem.

  • @holger1405 Yes installing it onto another drive/location seemed to have worked.

Unknown, if the solution is due to it being in another location, or if it any ole reinstall woulda fixed it. If I was a betting man, I'd say it was likely, that the location was the problem.

    Thank you.
