Hi @EA_Shepard; guessing no one has gotten back to you regarding an updated app that corrects this issue?
I know you’re the middleman here, so don’t take this as aimed at you…
I’d like to know what is taking the development team so long to at least provide some information to pass on the the paying customers. This lack of communication (and the fact that it took so very long to acknowledge the issue in the first place) is concerning.
I suppose no one considers what happens if a customer buys the game today; would that person - who was eager to play ME for the first time - be stuck spinning their wheels for who-knows-how-long after EA has taken their money? Suppose ME is their first purchase using the EA app; think it motivates the person to risk buying another game that might not even install, never mind whether or not it runs?
As a lowly end-user of the client and without getting into the weeds over my frustration with the issue, it's obviously a pretty complicated middleware issue that the employees and power-users here haven't been trained to help with and are stuck trying to interpret obfuscated messages that someone on a design committee thought was a good idea to dump into the public. Nine months of a problem would indicate that wasn't a good idea.
EA Desktop has a fairly robust log system that states the problem is a corrupt/missing header from a compressed file before causing the client to throw out the obfuscated message. Origin downloads and installs the exact same file with no problem so the problem is not the distributed file itself but the middleware handling the decompression of that file.
Will it get fixed anytime soon? I doubt it.

This is probably the most informative post in this thread so far about this issue and lead me to finding the logs for the EA App myself. I can see where the error is triggering. Not that I can do anything about it, as you've stated, but it helps to have some further and solid confirmation that this is an issue that has to be corrected by EA.

So, I went through support and got the runaround with the usual "do this, do that, restart your computer" steps that have already been posted here despite telling them that I had done all those steps already. Still had to go through 4 or more (can't remember how many) reps telling me to try the next step that I had already done.
I finally reached a rep who said that they are aware of the issue and it has been worked on and will be fixed in "no time," and asks me to be patient, sort of like what has been asked by the rep in this thread.
I also got a response from a different rep who said that, in order to help me further, I need to provide my email address and further info (which they should already have???? I have to log into my account in order to submit a support ticket, so they should have all this info already), but when I tried to reply with the requested info, I was instantly and hilariously auto-replied back with an email saying that EA no longer monitors the email address I replied to.
So yeah, looks like EA's just playing the silent game hoping we all forget about the games we can't access.

Hey All,
I have not seen an update on my end on this one yet. I did request one from the team. As soon as I get one, I will let you know what is happening with it.
I appreciate your patience on this.
Cheers!

The last update you got was in May, saying that the fix should be pushed out "soon." This was the exact response that one of the many reps I spoke to had said, as well.
I'd really like to know on what world y'all live on where "soon" means "going on 4 months and counting" later.

EA_Shepard - please allow me to summarize this thread:
February 2023 - Issue first reported in this threadEA_Illium responds - but the proposed fix is canned/scripted and does not work.March 2023 - The community finds a work-around by using the older Origin app. This will work for a little while but since then EA has killed the Origin app and it will no longer install.EA_Kent jumps into the thread for a little bit, asking for info but providing no solutions to the various issues.April 2023 - EA_Shepard joins the thread.Users have continued to report issues with EA Play in general and others specific to the ME1 issue.EA_Shepard proposes the clear the cache fix, it does not work.HannibalSpectre has a workaround to Origin not installing, but again this is a temporary solution. Plus requires a complete rip of all EA Play apps and reinstall via Origin.May 2023 - EA_Shepard says the fix should be coming soonJune 2023 - ...crickets...July 2023 - EA_Shepard responds to an inquiry - nothing new yet.August 2023 - I jump into the thread, ask EA-Shepard if there is an update..."nothing new but checking" is the response.September 2023 - Again EA_Shepard says there is nothing new, but they will check...Skat-Man_Joe rips through the log files, finds the issue but it's not something we the community can fix. He's done the job that EA troubleshooters should have already.October 2023 - ...crickets so far...as we are all still waiting for EA_Shepard to 'check' on the status and give us a REAL update other than repeated platitudes.EA_Shepard - the repeated "Nothing new, I'll check and update you" followed by silence has worn out it's welcome. The EA team has known about this issue for 8 months. It has been given specific details. This is a show stopping issue preventing users from installing legally purchased/licensed products. We paid for ME1 and can't use it because your support teams are not willing to get it fixed. If my clients had told me they could not access the older files on a file server and 8 months went by without a solution, they would have fired me 7.5 months ago. Sadly...we already paid for the product and are locked into EA fixing it so we can use it.No more "I'll check and get back to you." - give us real answers, or better yet - A FIX! - Fred_vdp2 years agoHero+
A quick personal update: I bought a new PC (not for this, don't worry). It has a clean install of Windows 11. I installed EA App on this new PC and tried to download Mass Effect 1. I still have the same issue.

@Fred_vdp @geekwithguns Thank you for the info. I put in for an update on this one. There are few titles that have this same issue, so ME1 is not the only one being affected so it is a larger issue being looked into.

So, yet another "I'll check and update" response.
How many of those have you posted now without an actual update? 3? 4?
This is month 5 going on 6 since you said that a fix is coming "soon" with no update to your (and our) requests.

@95324af03869532a Updates a Community Manager posts come from the games teams for said games. A Community Manager is not a developer. We do not "fix" games as we don't work on them. When we do not have an update, that is because one has not yet been provided to us. Until such time as one is provided to us, and players ask for one, it will be a message of we currently do not have one.
I know that is frustrating not to have one or a resolution, but the consensus that a Community Manager needs to fix a game is not something we in fact do not do. We check up on these issues daily. They do not go unnoticed and until there is one to provide, or a fix to inform the community of, at that time, we cannot provide a different answer.
Cheers!

Yes, I am very aware that the Community Manager, as well as other PR roles and most of the lower tech support staff are not developers and are not directly responsible for fixing games or services such as the EA App.
The issue here is that back in May, this is what you said:
"I wanted to provide an update on this one. The team is working on an update that should help with this specific issue. There is not an ETA on when it will be pushed but it should be pushed out here soon.
Once this update is pushed, you would be able to download any of the Original ME games. If for any reason after the update you are not, please let us know."This is also the response that I got from one of the (many) technical support staff I was in contact with when I sought help from EA's technical support.
You, other PR representatives, and tech support are the only means through which we have to interface with the developers and for the developers to interface with us.
So, when the devs tell you "soon" and you tell us "soon," and it's 5 months and counting after telling us "soon," they're making you lie to us, or there's some kind of disconnect between you and the devs.
And that is why we're coming at you with our grievances. It's nothing personal, but as I said above, you are among our very few options to tell the devs our issues and seek answers. And they're making you lie to us.
As someone else said in this thread, if clients told him that they couldn't access older files on a server and 8 months went by without a solution, they would've fired him 7.5 months ago.We would love to speak directly to the devs who are responsible for fixing this very big problem, but somehow, I don't think that EA really would like that.
"Frustrating" doesn't even adequately describe the situation. "Frustrating" is having to sit through traffic after work or having to do really tedious paperwork. These are things that you know that, eventually, the source of your grievances will be alleviated.
We can't even download our games to even start playing, and it's been 5+ months of "soon" with no end in sight and no indication at all that EA even considers this a high priority issue to fix. Instead, it seems like EA is just hoping that everyone just gives up and forgets about the games they can't access.

It finally works! About an hour ago, I tried to install Mass Effect (2007) and expected it to fail as usual... but it worked!
As an aside, it looks as though Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station are installed by default (at least for me) so there is no need to manage add-ons.Thanks to all involved for FINALLY getting this issue resolved!

I'd almost entirely given up hope until I came back and saw this, and imagine my surprise when for the very first time the EA App didn't just outright fail to install Mass Effect 1.
...of course, now my problem is that it's stuck on "Preparing" forever and still doesn't actually download, but at least that's a different problem. The EA App giveth and it taketh away, I guess.
- 2 years ago@SA_Trilobite (turns out the quick fix for me was to tell it to NOT download Pinnacle Station even though it defaults to including it. ME1 on its own seems to be downloading and installing normally!)

Otherwise the download size is 0 bytes, it's stuck at preparing, and I think it tries to download the DLC before the main game. 😛

I have been trying to post this since yesterday, but for some reason, my posts would not go through even though they said they did.
I am not sure if this one will even show.OK, posting worked this time. In any case, I was also able to confirm that it started working yesterday. The aforementioned Pinnacle Station bug happens to me, but unchecking it allows me to download just fine and the game has Pinnacle Station as part of its Downloadable Content section anyway, so it's a minor issue. - EA_Shepard2 years ago

A few years ago they updated the version of the game which included the DLC in the game download so it wasn't a separate one. If you run into any other issues though let us know

Hi,
Me too I had a problem downloading Mass Effect (2007) with EA App. I got stuck with "quick fix for me was to tell it to NOT download Pinnacle Station" as I didn't know how to tell it. And I got stuck installing Origin as when I ran it the installer wanted me to update Origin which failed miserably.
So I did the following and ME1 downloaded and installed correctly:
- exit EA App
- in "<drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect\__Installer" there are two prerequisites that must be installed
- in "<drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect\__Installer\vc\vc2005sp1\redist" run "vcredist_x86.exe" and install it
- in "<drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect\__Installer\directx\redist" run "DXSETUP.exe" and install it
- in "<drive>:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Mass Effect\Binaries" run MassEffectConfig.exe, change settings and save them
- run and login to EA App,
- download and install ME1
This means that you should have some kind of prior ME1 installation. To me it didn't help installing VC 2005 redistributable and DX from files I found on the web.
Hope this helps some people.
