Trying again once more. Reposting this here from my thread about Liam because it fits in with this discussion on what I feel is wrong with Liam's romance / how it could have been improved. At the end I'll also include a couple more improvement suggestions. I'm half way through Jaal's romance right now, which even at the half way mark is a vast improvement on what Liam got. You can feel / see the friendship and then attraction building between them. I have not done Reyes romance yet. I intend to though but others have already and can add his more indepth than I can. (From my Liam discussion thread) One of the things about Liam's that I think is bugging me so much was his complete lack of response when Sara was 'killed by SAM' to get out of the prison. The fact that at the time, he was there watching her die, seeing them have problems bringing her back and had no reaction to it what so ever. Yet previously in a conversation/banter with Peebee it was established that Liam takes it on himself to always be close to the Pathfinder, to protect them, yet there he was helpless to do anything on his watch to prevent it and he didn’t have a reaction to that?! Even later on the ship when he does - very briefly mention it, he jokes and laughs it off with a hey you should probably stop dying. And thats it?! It was the perfect chance for a cute romance scene and frankly probably the main one that romance was lacking. He should have pulled her aside, kissed, hugged, mentioned how worried he was or something. It would have been a touching moment, something sorely lacking throughout Liam's romance. As much as sex scenes are nice, I don't need one for the romance to be a good romance. What there does need to be is signs of caring. Intimate or heated or both moments. Liam really got none of that. It was almost as if his entire romance, save for a couple of very short conversations, was off-screen. Liam romance break-down. Flirt. Awkward flirt. Possible one night stand (which could lead to more). This scene had a kiss, the sex was off-screen. However the whole thing was interrupt only. With no interrupt, all they do is touch foreheads. Then you get nothing, nothing for ages. Then Aya. He sends you off to scan stuff, after which they can have a 'date' but this supposed date is - yep you guessed it, off-screen. So you run around scanning for him, call it a date and it's done. Then nothing, nothing, nothing. All of a sudden back on Eos at the football game, he askes about getting serious, ending it or going on with no strings. So here I am, not having taken the interrupt. Having had one OFF SCREEN date with the guy. No kisses. Nothing and suddenly, he wants to get serious. Serious about what exactly?? At this point you can choose to go be alone with him - which is once again OFF SCREEN. Then more nothing. Nothing. Nothing. The SAM death thing, that was also more nothing. Final 'date' on Eos and omg finally something that was actually half way decent. Ages after getting serious theres even finally an on screen kiss... End game. One more kiss. Something that shows heat. - A show of concern- actual real concern about the others wellbeing during intense situations- like SAM stopping Sara's heart. That is more indepth above how it could have been handled. And hey, bioware has writers on staff I am sure they can come up with ideas themselves on what shows attraction and intimacy for a budding romance.

There are more than just a "few" ladies out there playing ME:A. 🙂And to answer your question, there are lots of opportunities to improve the romances - both male and even more, female romances. It all feels so "planned". And the moment you get your "intimacy cinematic" (if you even get one...) you know the end is near. It would be great to have more than that and it doesn't have to be more "intimacy cinematics". Some party banters. A drink in one of the many bars, a kiss and cuddling interrupt after a hard fight we barely survived. Sitting together on a bench at the Nexus or the beautiful marked on Aya. Some freetime in your quarter, sitting on the couch, watching the stars. Whatever makes it more of a "romance" and not just a one night stand. But well, wishfull thinking I guess... At least we get much more than just "a warm meal" once a day. 😉

And have you seen what further plans they have for patches / DLC's? They want to make the Romances for the male Ryder (!!) better and give them more possibilitys. Just great! It would be great to have more than that and it doesn't have to be more "intimacy cinematics". Some party banters. I am really disappointed...the romances start good. Nice flirting and getting to know each other...Reyes is such a bad guy...but for the length of the game there is way too little romance scenes...
Why can't we just go to our LI and flirt with them, ask them out to Vortex or just to spend some time with each other?
My first PT I romanced Jaal and his scenes were cute and all, but it felt like one romantic sentence/scene every 15 hours...and between it, its just like with every other squadmate/npc
My second PT was with Reyes and his romance is awesome...until his quest is done, after that, there is nothing! Nothing! Even in the end.
I just don't get it ☹️

However, it depends on the choices you make in that quest.

I believe you have to let him shoot Sloane. Then you get to meet up with him again later and theres like another kiss or something.

With Reyes it matters the choice you make.

But still his 'romance' is a lot less than many others - however he is a side 'mance, doesn't even count for the achievement.

Which brings me to another annoyance, why do that?

Straight females either have to do a scott pt for another straight romance, if we like playing a guy or not. Or do a f/f romance just to get that achievement. Why push players into stuff like that if they don't wanna do it? Go back to achievement for completing a single romance- that way if I wanna play three times and romance Liam all three times I can ! Or I can try others but don't have to just to complete the achievements.

For gay males its even worse, they have to do 2 romances outside of their sexual preference just for the achievement. Why do that?

I would like that! I think Ryder should give a tour on the Tempest finishing in the quarters to every romance option 😉
