So why in character creation do they ask if Shepard is Male or female if it never comes up again?

They don't care about pronouns.
My second play through was as Fem Ryder.
At one point,my brother,Scott, called me a He. lol

Yep, all of once, purely as a pronoun lol. It's like they forgot about it until the very end. "So... remember that thing we had in the character creation about shepard's gender? Were we going to do anything with that?"
Maybe it'll come to a future installment or dlc.
My logical guess would be that one of the planned DLCs should feature Shep's gender(maybe a voice recording of some kind played either by male or female shep). Since you cant go back and create another character history at the point of a DLC they did it at the start of the game. Having said that I wont be surprised if Bioware botched it up again... Seems like a trend....

My guess/hope it's a DLC where the Nexus finally makes QEC contact with the Milkyway (which is mentioned in one of the HNS messages) and we get confirmation on the fate of the milkyway.

Yes I am hoping for that as well, but so far Bioware seemed reluctant to commit to a canon ME3 conclusion, as long as this is the case, it will be very hard for them to bring back previous characters or speak about how the war with the reapers ended. If we didnt have enough war asset points earth and normandy could be destroyed.

it would be nice that someone from the shepard line were in andromeda
Actually, migth not be impossible as we do not know the exact departure date of the Quarian ark...maybe even someone from the "old gang" if post ME3.
(Doubt that though, as it forces "canon" ending which the devs are avoiding to do)
i mean someone from shepard family in me1 i thing they mention that he had a sister or brother dont remember well it would be nice the were part of andromeda initiative

Don't remember this specifically either (siblings) but I believe that tied into earther/spacer/colonist so would "lock in" a canon shepard even more tightly.

One of the original options you could pick was orphan, so I'm not sure how they'd fit one in without a "Surprise! Long lost-" twist. I thought it probably had to do with multilingual choices for pronouns... and am not surprised they missed a few of those.
yeah ive done playthoughs as both scott and sara and even though they both completed the family secret line neither mentioned shepard with any pronoun designating shepard as male or female, so yeah probably an oversight by devs so maybe in future dlc they will add something
