So What Does Ryder Have That Others Do Not?

I didn't know what to title this to be honest or how to organize my thoughts so I'll just start with the straw that made me want to ask this kind of question.

Near the beginning of the game, they have some kind of engineering issue.  Cora's like "Ryder will help, he's got a scanner," and immediately I wonder why no one else would have a scanner especially since they have omni-tools.  So then I find the issue and after that, they make me reset it.

Tech: "Okay great, can you reset it for us Ryder?"

Me: "Sure.  I'll do your job for you."

I know.  This was just to introduce us to scanning but this could have been done later and in a way that would have made more sense in my opinion.

Then there's this SAM thing.  Seems quite a few of us actually have SAM implants, they just aren't merged with SAM the way I am (kind of makes you have to wonder if Papa Ryder died because of a lack of air or because he tore SAM out and gave it to you) so aside from making it possible for me to use the bathroom while cloaked and from greater distances, SAM theoretically can feed other people data the way he feeds it to me.

He can even communicate with them although everyone with an implant will hear what he's saying.

I guess my real question should have been, do you think there's entirely too much reliance on you?  Like some of these tasks would/should be easy for others to do?

And another related question sort of:

Spoiler
Couldn't the Archon had grabbed any number of people to accomplish what he accomplishes at the end?  Did he really need your sibling?
