Why would I had been the only one with a scanner at the time, especially if Ryder isn't the only one with the Omni-Tool? And I wasn't the closest to the console. Lol, I was standing in the doorway and when I found the issue I was behind everyone.
But given the job these people have, I'd suspect they would have to have scanners as a diagnostic tool at the very least. I could have sworn that on the Nexus, two of the people that seem to have similar jobs (Raj and Zarah) and I thought they had been scanning.
Just doesn't seem right that Omni-Tools would be abundant but scanning would be in short supply especially among those that need to repair things.
On the other thing, I could see that. You were the apple of the Achon's eye after all. Why wouldn't he be dramatic? Makes sense.
As far as your SAMmy having more information than others, they're all linked to the same SAM... well except the other races that came from other arks.
Other than that, SAM is samming it up for the entire Nexus from what I could tell though he primarily resides in his node so other than making it so you can dunk on rims that are taller than regulation, everyone with a link to SAM would be drawing from the same knowledge base in theory.
But I do believe that ultimately, you being the focus for him at some point would be the main reason the Archon makes that decision.
Omni tools still need programs to work - and we are not talking about military-grade omni tools like Shepard or Ryder. The fact people are using omni tools does not necessarily mean that they have scanner application or know how to use it.
Hyperion has just arrived to Andromeda, only limited number of people is awaken, they are under-equipped at that time, and probably those in the room are more in terms of *civilian* operators rather than actual technicians (let's say: true technicians are busy with routine checks and computer analysis on the bridge, machine rooms, computer junctions, or whatever). Ryder on the other hand is a part of Pathfinder's team, well educated and skilled in combat, techs, and biotics. He or she is well equipped for the task, as scanning is what he or she is expected and trained to do. All the programs are already on his or her omni tool.
When issue occurs operators are immediately aware that it is dangerous and needs immediate fix, but they are not necessarily aware how to fix it *quickly*. A lot of systems (like diagnostic systems) are still not functional, true technicians are far away, and the Scourge encounter surprises all of them. There is no time to check manual.
Cora is more in terms of a military and tactical XO than a specialist, and thus she immediately recognizes that Ryder is their best choice. The issue is prompyly identified with the help of Ryder's scanner indeed, and while operators are probably able to fix it, they had *not* seen the problem with their own eyes, and thus it makes Ryder better suited to act.
...of course all the above is just an unimportant banter, since the very idea of the whole scene is to show new players how to use scanner and how to interact with objects - nothing more, nothing less. The "quest" is aimed as a tutorial, and never intended to make much more sense than: "Brave adventurers, there are dire rats in my cellar, and even though I have 8 bouncers in my inn, and rat catcher on a contract, could You PLEASE help me to clear my cellar of those FIENDS?"
As far as Archon is concerned... Well, it is Alec Ryder and then protagonist Ryder that ultimately compromised Ram-tech, so it makes sense to assume that it is family thing. Only Ryders managed to actually reset those vaults, right?
