Seeing as the leadership for the entire leaderhship for the Initiative was in Cryo on the Nexus, why didn't the Nexus have it's own S.A.M or Pathfinder just in case none of the Arks appeared for an extended period of time.
Having no S.A.M node on the Nexus means the station is entitrely dependent on a Ark arriving and bringin there own S.A.M node for there to be an effective Pathfinder, so it would make sense to bring a S.A.M node on the Nexus as a contingency plan just in case none of the Arks show up (so the Nexus isn't doomed to fail if no Arks show up).
I could forgive this plot oversight if the Nexus Pathfinder and S.A.M node were destroyed when the Nexus hit the Scourge or (read spoiler tag).
Spoilerthey were both killed by the mysterious benefactor who killed Jien Garson.
because the nexus was not built yet. the job of the nexus team was to show up a short time before the arks in the galaxy with cargo ships full of building materials and begin the construction of the nexus. after it was near completion the arks would show up and go from there. but they crashed lost part of their ships and crew. the leadership was in chaos and when they finally started building... a year past before we finally arrived. all the arks some how ended up in different locations damaged captured and destroyed. my guess is the person who funded the trip altered the time scale and arrival points of when the arks should arrive so this way chaos would unfold with fear and unrest and they could make their escape or hide their tracks. could be someone found out who this mystery person is and used the mutiny to kill them and remove any others who could be an issue for them.
so the reason no sam and no pathfinder is because the mission was not to find a home but to build one aka nexus.
