Why does the protagonist have to be human in ME5

I don't want to get into the story, because I have been a fan since day 1, and I know the story will be great. I just would like to see one where the protagonist doesn't have to be human. There are so many different races in the universe and humans have made their mark. I don't think I'm the only that would like to play through the story as a krogan or turian or some other race.

However you go with the story, I'm sure I would play it over and over as I have with every other game. But it would be nice to have that option and it would make it that much more replayable.

  • I think its because, well, we're human so the character can be more relatable, but I agree; it would be cool to play as another race, or even just let you play as a squad mate.

  • Well, the obvious answer is because MEA centers around the Ryders, as ME centered around Shepard.

Though, I admit it would be cool if they'd let you play as other pathfinders. Or, maybe do something like in Suikoden III or GTA 5 where you can switch between pathfinders to complete missions and objectives in different parts of the galaxy.
