As far as your question concerning the ORIGINAL Multiplayer not being included, probably because it would feel "out of place" with the new graphical upgrades to the single-player (not that most fans would probably care, but it was an aesthetic choice that the developer has every right to make).
I know that they originally did not include the Multiplayer because they were not able to upgrade the graphics on the single-player AND multi-player modes and have it done in time (perhaps too ambitious, perhaps EA time schedule? I don't know). Maybe it is wishful thinking but I think that it would be smart to do the initial launch of Mass Effect Legendary Edition on May 14th, then a few months later (after they have had the proper time to work on it while juggling other projects), release the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer (with the enhanced graphics) as a free DLC. Maybe not though, since they are modifying the war assets on Mass Effect 3 on the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition to function (not decreasing the total amount of Readiness with the modifier) to work without playing multiplayer. They could also be pushing people towards the Mass Effect: Andromeda multi-player, I don't know. As fun as the Mass Effect 3 Multi-player is, I still play the Mass Effect: Andromeda multi-player quite a bit still to this day (mostly because I have Mass Effect 3 on Xbox 360 and my Gold subscription has expired and I have Andromeda on PC).
- 5 years ago@TheRealMarsupio Modifying the war assets makes sense if they couldnt put multiplayer out by the launch date. if they do intend to put out the multiplayer at a later date I dont think the war assets not being tied would be a big problem. I never liked being forced to play multi in order to progress my singleplayer anyway.

@GrimReaperTaken I agree. Though I understand why they did it for two reasons:
1) It forced people to play multiplayer.
2) It made the Reaper war seem more "Galactic wide" by showing you the experiences of other soldiers besides Commander Shepard.

Right! The second reason is exactly why multiplayer is absolutely integral to the Mass Effect trilogy. (chucklin') You hit the nail right on the head with that one.

Bioware answered the question about MP already.
They could of course update the multiplayer textures as well, but people underestimate the logistics and cost of including MP into a game.
It means years long maintenance of the servers and the MP part of the game as well.
Not even talking about the inevitable demand for crossplay, balancing, MP challenges and so forth.
Mac Walters was honest here, It is a question of cost and benefit, especially if you already have a working MP in the old Trilogy.
And because of this I think that the chances of Bioware adding MP later on are pretty much zero.

No, just tack it on as is with controller support enabled for PC gamers.

Rumors and reports out of EA says they are backtracking on forcing multiplayer into every game, and going back to encouraging studios to make games that players want and that the studios want to make. I take this to mean, IF TRUE, that Bioware doesn't have to put MP into a game anymore, and can go back to making single player focused story strong RPG games.....if true.
So not including MP maybe as simple as they no longer have to do so because EA says so. They really don't enjoy making that type of game and want to expend their resources on the new Dragon Age, next Mass Effect and refining the stories in all future games. Yeah, they COULD port it over, but they just don't want to and no longer have to so they aren't.
edited to fix a nasty run on sentence....typing train of thought isn't always a good idea......
