Why remove the save ability???

There's also actually a hidden quick save feature: switch favourite profiles with the F keys. It autosaves the game.

I tried quest switch already and it didn't work, perhaps I didn't walk enough. I'll try again.

I also tried already the trick of profile switch, and it didn't work. But I didn't used a shortcut, used the interface. So I'll try again tonight.

If you're on a priority mission that might be why.  

Those ones actually full out block saving on purpose, and did in the old games as well.  That is a design choice they made, for unknown reasons.  I guess in their mind we should be able to finish a story mission from Point A to Point B without dying and if we can't do that, then we don't deserve to progress in the game.

It may also have been a feature they implemented to prevent players from saving at critical points with choices.  It places alot more importance on the choice you make if you know you simply can't reload and fix it.  

If you're not on a priority mission, disregard me - it's probably a bug.  

I tried doing this, since the trial, but it never works for me.

And I'm not on a Priority mission, i'm on Eos doing sidequests.

It's not just priority missions, it's only some parts of them. For example the long introduction, or when on Eos you enter underground to try unlock the atmospheric machine.

First point, I don't remember, it was certainly short parts and not many. Secondly older game was very bad for exploration, it's not the same context at all.

For the difficulty challenge, it's a bit ridiculous because it's done on parts having huge parts of exploration. Moreover difficulty level can be switch at any time including a story mode. No the only result is destroy the gameplay of those parts, to destroy the exploration of those parts, to destroy the story telling of this parts, ridiculous.

I don't notice much that, hence the effect was totally failed on me. Moreover it's not how works good consequences, it's not just a quick immediate effect, it's on a larger point of view.

It's awful gameplay and yeah I can play story mode and avoid the problem, ridiculous. The game is good if you lost a few combats, but the total gameplay destruction of those parts, is just awful design.

Simply put, it's a fact: games should allow quick saves.  As I mentioned elsewhere, we're not all kids on summer break - many of us have real life issues to deal with and you don't want to get up and leave in the middle of what might have been a good moment in the game, or after a hard fight that just hasn't saved.  What I'd like to understand is what were the developers thinking in removing it (or not adding it)?  What was the justification for not having it?

Long ago, a game came out called Star Control.  It was wonderful and part 2 only improved exponentially on a good thing.  So when part three was announced, we fans couldn't wait.  But what came out was an unpolished piece of dung.  After all these years, a company with such a history of producing games like EA, should know: take the extra time, postpone a week or a month, but release QUALITY.  Keep the name strong and then there can be part 2's and 3's... I want more Mass Effect in the future, but the number of complaints I've been reading make me wonder about the future of the franchise!

That's another argument, but myself I will admit it's not totally incoherent to have a short section defining a challenge without save. If it's jumps and platform like I just never buy the game, if it's some combats it's ok. But do that just for some short sections with combats is close to impossible with an area you don't want it is a corridor. There was a choice to do, corridor and short section with mainly combats and savepoints, or areas more open and less linear with mixing exploration and combats and then allowing manual save.

The awful side effect of those savepoints is to include large exploration parts and large story parts, that are mainly enjoyment and not challenge. Just redo a combat lost is fun particularly with the combat system of the game generating a lot of variations. But just redo large story parts and large exploration parts is boredom and has no link to any challenge design that could add savepoints.

Yeah, as observed, it happens during Priority Main Storyline Missions.

I would hazard a guess that it's locked because there's a great amount of events scripted in those missions, and players could accidentally save during situations which could jeopardize their own progress. However, I think that saving could be unlocked at strategic points on those areas, whenever scripted events weren't present or not currently underway (like when you are fleeing a vault's purge).
