Try loading the game while not connected to xbox live. I had the same last night, after seeing my Galaxy at War screen not loading.
If you can manage to get to the options screen try turning the auto login off and on.
Thats all I did.

those steps helped me when I get stuck on checking for Dlc after I had turned off auto connect to EA servers.
just to be sure...you turned on/ (set it to yes) for auto connect to EA servers? in the options menu. While internet is disconnected / disabled
you then exited the game?/ or restarted xbox 360 system
and then started it up again, while connected to the internet... and still got the checking for Dlc message for a long period of time.? (it will check for DLC everytime that the game is started up.)
good thing to know is that Single player can be played offline when disconnected from the internet.
If that doesn't work could try clearing your system cache in the Xbox's system memory menu. some have claimed that worked for them. (clearing system cache http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/settings-and-initial-setup/clear-system-cache )
if all these don't help. I have no idea, could try EA support...

try moving all your save/download content onto a flash drive then remove it from xbox start a new game then when u get started pause plug flash drive back in then select load game should work this pretty much bypasses login at start also a way to steal dlc for other games i.e. signing off xbox live and copying a friends dlc or downloading it off the internet and using a mod program to inject it into ur xbox360 flashdrive

Try disconnecting the xBox itself from the Network/Internet completely when loading the game.
If it still hangs at that point you may have a dirty spot or scratch on the disc near the center(the autentication of authenticity area). I ran into that same problem and it was cleared up after taking the disc to a local video rental store and paying them to do a scratch repair ($4 depending on the store)
