Introducing Underground Rivals

Since NFSNL’s launch in October 2015, we’ve seen the game evolve to cement its position as the premier mobile arcade racing game. From Kelly’s Chop Shop through to Blackridge Rivals, NFSNL has changed a lot over the years, and, starting next month, we’re set to take our next step!

In our September update, we’re introducing a brand new multi-tiered competitive feature in Need for Speed No Limits called Underground Rivals. To share the news, Josh, lead designer, has all the information.

---

Howdy,

You may have heard some sneaky rumors that this is the last season of Blackridge Rivals. This is true! The team has been reading your feedback and considering how we could grow competitive play in NFS No Limits. We realized that the current system is not doing the best job it can, while also taking advantage of the whole garage. With this in mind, shutting down Blackridge Rivals was necessary to make room for something new.

What is Underground Rivals?

Your number one question will no doubt be: How is Underground Rivals different to Blackridge Rivals? Blackridge Rivals focused on one giant, long-term where you compete in your best car. This meant all the lit new cars from Special Events and Crates didn’t get much attention, unless they happened to be that new BEST car. Underground Rivals is changing this in a few ways:

Divisions

There are now three divisions of increasing car power. They are divided into low, medium and high/max PR. For each division, there will be a full competition with matchmaking and prizes for players who own the eligible cars. Divisions aren’t exclusive either - if you have all three cars, you can race and claim prizes in all three competitions. You can still win prizes and glory in your fastest cars, but you will also need the combined power of your whole garage to claw your way to become the true King of the Underground.

Weekly Events

Underground Rivals events will run weekly, as opposed to one per update in Blackridge Rivals. These weekly events run across twelve weeks, looping after the final week. Each Event has three divisions, with three cars in each. Over these twelve weeks, all cars get a shot to tear it up. Across the 12 weeks, your scores will combine into your Underground Score, which determines who reigns as King of the Underground.

Rewards

While Blackridge Rivals focused on participation, Underground Rivals has shifted its focus to competition and winning, raising the stakes higher than ever before. The new rewards structure has more prizes, per division, per week! There’s a lot more to go for.

Tracks

Each weekly event will showcase a different track region. Expect to race on Novato Bay runs for a week, then Downtown runs for a week, Blackridge Mountain, Redcrest Canyon and so forth. This mix will provide fresh tracks often, while providing time to perfect your racing lines, and chase down those personal bests. To celebrate the launch of Underground Rivals, we’re debuting a brand new track called Erwick County, which will be featured in the very first weekly event!

We want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your commitment to NFS No Limits and thank you in advance for getting stuck into Underground Rivals. Our team reads all your comments and feedback online here, Twitter, Google+, and any other spots our players come together. It really helps us to keep making this the best game it can be!

After reading the comments posted on reddit, I have a bad feeling about Underground Rivals now. I have a feeling that Underground Rivals will be worse than Blackridge Rivals by taking the pay2win aspect up a notch.

So it turns out that I was right about Underground Rivals after all and that it made the game even more pay2win.

Quitting the game very soon when I can't even compete next week with the likes of tuned Koenigsegg Regeras in Breakneck Division.

And it's much easier to quit the second time around.

I do have a suggestion to improve Underground Rivals though.

My suggestion is to have a "same Performance Rating" option. Both you and your opponent have the same PR according to your opponent's PR.

If you choose to use the option and win, you win one coin or win x1.0 points.

If you don't choose the option and win, you win two coins or win x1.5 points.

If you choose to use the option and lose, you lose one coin or lose x1.0 points.

If you don't choose the option and lose, you lose half a coin or lose x0.5 points.

The option is not available if you and your opponent's cars have the same PR.

TheRealJony i agree, its now not looking too good, i was checking relative pr levels for each of the cars you listed, there is a massive gap between the campaign cars and the top se car in each class, definately seems biased towards those that pay to play

Firemonkeys released three sales a couple of hours ago.

A Driver Division Upgrade Pack, a Speedster Division Upgrade Pack, and a Breakneck Division Upgrade Pack. Each covering Ford Mustang Hoonicorn, Ford GT (2017), and McLaren P1 respectively. All of them costing real money. (My Ford Mustang Hoonicorn is maxed already, so I didn't get the Driver sale)

By the look of things are going, it seems I am going to be right about Underground Rivals and that it's going to be a disaster.

We'll all see in a few days for ourselves, but the future of No Limits looks bleak to me.

on another note, those of us that are above rep 100 now get a permanent increase in storage for each new level, now following this update my rep has now gone up to 181 and i had an in game notice that my storage had increased, but i have no idea what it has now gone up to.......... is it 1 extra per level or more? i cant seem to find out........ other than keep grinding parts until im told my storage is full

Each level up past Level 100 awards you 5 storage slots.

    750 + (81*5) = 750 + 405 = 1,155

    You would have 1,155 storage.

I'm hoping it's fair like Jony said as well. But no limits being an android game, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out being a typical pay to win scheme like 95 percent of good racing games on android.

Neither would I when I experienced the same thing with how NFS World was developed.

Just because you had a special event car during Blackridge rivals, doesn't mean you even come close to winning the season. I know there's been tons of times where my Venom Gt got beat by tuned vipers.

A tunable SRT Viper GTS is better than an unmaxxed Hennessey Venom GT.

Right now, it's not possible to max out the Venom GT yet.

  • After reading the comments posted on reddit, I have a bad feeling about Underground Rivals now. I have a feeling that Underground Rivals will be worse than Blackridge Rivals by taking the pay2win aspect up a notch.

Firemonkeys released a batch of cars needed to prepare for Underground Rivals via Twitter. I'll mention the cars needed for the sake of my argument.

The ones bolded are Special Event cars.

    Driver Division

    Ford Mustang Hoonicorn (Muscle)

Ford Mustang Boss 302 (Muscle) *Blueprints can be bought in Kelly's Chop Shop

    Subaru BRZ (Street)

    Speedster Division

    Ford GT (2017) (Super)

Ford Shelby GT500 (Snoop Dogg) (Muscle)

Nissan Skyline GT-R BNR32 (Classic Sports)

    Breakneck Division

    McLaren P1 (Hyper)

Pagani Zonda Cinque (Hyper) *Blueprints can be bought in Kelly's Chop Shop and has a permanent replayable race if Special Event is completed

    BMW M4 F82 (Sports)

As you can see above, players with Campaign cars will not be able to compete with players with Special Event cars when opponents will be in way faster cars than theirs.

Example: Player plays in Driver Division. They are able to drive one of the three cars allowed in that division. They only have Subaru BRZ. They get matchmaked with an opponent with a Ford Mustang Hoonicorn. The player has no chance of winning.

So instead of needing one Special Event car to compete for the top of the leaderboards in Blackridge Rivals (which already was bad enough), players will need three Special Event cars each week to compete for the top of the leaderboards in Underground Rivals.

This pay2win tactic was done back in NFS World when Tiers were replaced with Car Classes in 2012.

Instead of needing 1 pay2win car for all three tiers to compete, players needed 1 pay2win car for five car classes to compete. (One car class was completely free from pay2win)

Regardless of everything I said above, I'm still going to give Underground Rivals a try and hope that I am wrong about all of this.

What I am hoping with Underground Rivals is if I choose one car to race, then I get ONLY opponents that drive the same car as me.

So if I wanted to drive my Subaru BRZ in Driver Division, then I only get opponents that drove their Subaru BRZ as well.

Like I said from my previous post. As long as players can use their Campaign cars to compete for the top in Underground Rivals, then it's fine with me.

  • After thoroughly reading and watching the video, I can say that I'm excited about the feature.

I was hoping for a live Multiplayer function to come to the game though.

As long as players can use their Campaign cars to compete for the top in Underground Rivals, then it's fine with me.

  • sounds promising, should be less daunting for new players and lets hope its not dominated by cheaters like brr has been
