What's wrong with my steering wheel?

Hey everyone, I got my first steering wheel (G29) yesterday and I tested it in NFS Heat. Unfortunately the results were quite disappointing. I choose couple basic races to improve my skills and immediately realize that I couldn't drift. I tried double tap and handbrake but none of them felt the same as I was used to do with my keyboard. For an example I can not keep my drift in wide turns no matter what I do. Then I tried to use my keyboard and again realized that car movement wasn't the same at all. I couldn't move freely and drift. But as soon as I unplugged my wheel and restart the game everything turned back to normal. It's like something is restricting my ability to drive freely when I use my wheel and I don't know what. Any recommendation is appreciated.
