former #1 ranked Chel player last year, but .500 in HUT because horrible servers

To have dedicated servers in HUT is really a big problem for some players, me included.

i play hut rivals , champs and squad battles, squad battles are fine, but online it is sluggish player movement.

its quite easy to tell when this sluggish player movement kicks in (there are also videos are present in this forum to illustrate this).
when it happens, opponents with 82 average players will out-skate and poke check win your quite good team with 87+ players… frustrating as you will loose to players which you know has a lower real-skill level (playing competitive and you will know)

the ingame graph shows that I have a flat line 10-20 ms… and this is my response time for the server. This does not show any relevance of the opponent I am facing.

I live in the nordic countries in Europe, and i can be matched with someone from south europe, or russia… graph still shows 10-20ms, and simply ignores the fact that its >50ms to my opponent.

as you mention, someone needs to have an advantage, be it the person closest to the server or a result of lag compensation code at the server.

in my case i am quite often being matched with players 300 miles away…. Why is this? After games i talk with some opponents… they send me their graphs and some times it looks like a roller coaster, or they got ping of 40-50ms… sometimes it feels like opponents with poor coonnection gets an advantage which would undeline the lag compensation argument. But also when opponents have 10-20ms, the sluggish speed happens… its quite random.

when i select max ping 20 ms at a start of the match making process… this simply defines that i should connect to a server within that ping range, it has very little impact on actual input lag/game speed quality of the game.

To continiously tell the player base to follow certain steps to fix their gear or tweak there setting is foul play in 90% of these cases… there is something else broken. It might not be noticeble for the general player base, but for the competitive player this needs to be investogated properly and not swiped under the carpet.

as stated many many times, this sluggish play is not constant. Sometimes its really bad, sometime it good. This is also the pure reason why so many see the difference, we know how fast the game speed actually can be in online mode.

this was a problem in nhl 22, its even a bigger problem in nhl 23 and i think this is based on the high player base volume right now.

i got fiber 500/500 always stable flat line

top end gaming router, well configured with all the right setting for qos, upnp etc, with cat6 wired cables

tv set to gaming game mode ( so no filters )

i tried ever setting and optione there is, different dns, mtu values… all other online games work above perfect.

@EA, tell us what you need to deep dive into the investigation, or simply be frank about the ”known issues”

Can you get some video of your gameplay so I can see what's happening?

I don't know how that will help you, it will look like I am slow to react. Which I am because of the delay. I can show you videos of me pokechecking through people and them getting it back, and videos of people pokechecking me from not even close and still getting the puck. These things happen several times a game. I have been playing NHL since I was a kid in 1994. I know when mistakes are my fault. This doesn't happen offline, this doesn't happen in VS, this happens sometimes in EASHL when playing west coast server or playing Montreal based team, this happens every game to me in HUT. Again, number 1 ranked last year for a good chunk of time in club 3s, I know how to defend and pokecheck, but what should happen after I poke check is not happening.

@niccolo91ea In a perfect world, or well a perfect one for NHL, there would be enough players searching at the same time in your region for this dream to come true. This isn’t CoD (although even in CoD I can’t find a west match easily as a western player).

Maybe once cross play launches you’ll get some more “locals only” matches.

You're saying that your opponents are noticeably faster due to the distance. 300 miles shouldn't really make that much of a difference. As far as the poke checks go, I would need to see those replays zoomed in. I'm not seeing anything unusual in your videos. In the first one, your opponent is in a better position to regain possession. In the second one, you're recovering from a missed poke and your opponent, again, is in a better position to pick it up.

I said sharing a video with you is worthless as you can not feel the delay and that you would just blame the player, and here we are.

That first video was clipped too short for you to see what happened, but I poked it from him once before clip started and 2x in the clip and he recovered, my guy wouldn't pick up the puck.

The second video what are you even talking about? I poked initially and should have had breakaway, then I poke again with Mackinnon poke goes through the puck???

Again this is what I am saying, sharing a video to you is worthless, you break it down and blame the player.

I know how to play this game obviously, I was ranked 1 as I mentioned and I am in Div 2 currently in HUT DESPITE THESE ISSUES THAT DON'T OCCUR OFFLINE OR IN VS. 

My guys are slow to react, therefore it puts me in positions where I can not recover as easily, when you poke the puck loose with two different people and other team still recovers, you are going to be out of position.

Also, what are you talking about 300+ miles shouldn't make a difference? It definitely does when opponent is a dozen miles to the server and I am 300+ miles?

In the second video, your poke missed. It didn't go through the puck. 

You're also saying your opponent's players are faster. It would be good to see that.

On a good connection, 300 miles isn't going to be at much of a disadvantage. What ping are you seeing in game? Even in Texas I'm still playing people up north and can poke and skate just fine. I'm not saying everyone will have the same experience though.

Hey ea I totally agree with this guy. Him being a number one ranked player is very hard to be and for him to be all the way in div 2 struggling to beat anyone with lower ping then him is insane. These videos don’t do justice and I’m willing to show you my experience and how the lag is affected due to your location not connection. For example I will show proof of me beating a number 8th ranked online vs player and having a record of 144-17-3 in online vs with shared connection (no servers involved) (player to player) a fair game then my hut team this year with a brutal record of 97-88 like yikes there isn’t a hint to due with servers being involved? Even the games I win are flukes I must not lie I think it comes down to me knowing where the players will go before hand but anyone to similar skill to me blows me out the water sorry to bum bard you with all these comments on Monday morning
