Re: So EA...is there any reason to think '24 will look/play any different than '23?

@PernellKarl027Always on the ice with your created player. There is fatigue but it regens coasting. No full teams and the 6s community isn't fond of wanting line changes anyway for various reasons. Can't even track your stats when goalies pulled using your player. So chances are super slim line changes would work properly on stat tracking.

Would be nice to have 'line changes' in the sense that you can skate to the bench and swap to a different loadout and/or swap loadouts in-between whistles.

I would be super happy if line chances added to the NHL 24. Follisimo is right that stat tracking could be one big issue to be solved. But something in that line change feature fascinates me really. It just makes sence to me, I mean the current stamina meter would fit nicely with swapping between players.

A couple of things concerns me though.

1) Is it enough to have line changes working only with player loadouts? In that case the basic info (name, jersey number, etc.) of both players would be the same and they look like the same as well but line changes would work at least. In my opinion that is not enough. It would be better to have two created player profiles with different info you know.

2) How to get AI players to go to the bench during the game smoothly. How to implement line changes working with AI players?

3) Stat tracking that mentioned before?

Maybe that feature could be implemented differently, im not a developer so. Maybe i am thinking too much ahead but overall I like the idea a lot and i think it deserves much more attention. Line changes would give a completely new element to the gameplay. All I can do is hope right now.

@MGrandalf64 I like the idea in theory, the biggest issue though is that I think EASHL is good with keeping the game moving. I don't want player's hiding behind the net or dumping pucks all the time so player's can do line changes. I like that the game is just a continuous play and I can just coast for a bit to regain stamina. Also, like you said.. cpu players going for line changes at bad times or dumping a puck to do a change would really cause a lot of problems. It's something to be considered but I think I would personally kick it down the road a bit until other things are added/ fixed.

@rsandersr47Thanks for reading my mind. I almost posted this last night but decided to just go to bed. It would 100% promote ragging.

@FrOhl2011  There is no actual cheating in the game. What you label cheese is on you not the people understanding how the mechanics of the game works whether it is realistic or not. There is only 1 thing I despise in this game and that is ragging the puck even if the game allows it. But I also play 6s humans only so it is slightly harder.

3v3 is there and isn't going anywhere. You don't have to play it. It's just another option and if you think forcing people to try and play 6s with AIs is good idea then ouch because we all know AI is nothing more than weak link.

@FrOhl2011 Been awake far longer than any of you here. The difference is that I live in reality of what the game offers while others dream of how they want it to be. Dreaming is for the future games made. Playing the game in front of you is the reality you need to understand.

@KlariskraysNHL I think with the lack of innovation this game has offered, trying to offer our dreams is all some feel is worth contributing in these forums. We pray that maybe we are eventually heard. Not sure if either being "awake" and enjoying what we have while we have it or "dreaming" and wanting/ expecting something better is best. To each their own in that department. I do have times I really enjoy this game, when everyone plays a clean game, no one is trolling, the teams feel mostly even.. the game can feel pretty good. I have other times where I feel I've completely wasted my time playing.

As much as I rag on this game (probably more than anyone else) I don't think it's *far* from having quality gameplay. This is probably why its all the more frustrating that we don't yet. I saw someone else suggest that almost everything in the game just needs polished. I would tend to agree with that, probably the most accurate way to describe the gameplay. If almost everything in the game was just slightly tuned/ polished the right way I think gameplay could be REALLY good. (I do think goaltending probably needs a big update or full overhaul though, I dont play it much but when i do I just feel like a big moving brick on skates.. granted I am AWFUL at the position so take that as you will)

I think the biggest thing (gameplay being most important) this game actually needs, is to add *more* (maybe not modes) but just features and ways to feel like you're more part of a community or more in the game. I like games that make me forget for a little bit that I'm playing a game. Sometimes after a long day of work or going on a training exercise out in the field, I want to come home and just forget everything for a bit and play a game. This game isn't nearly deep enough to allow you to forget you're playing a game. 2K on the other hand is pretty next level. The whole city is intractable, I go to the stadium and people want to talk to me, I can play with friends on the blacktop or in a club, with better progression and incentives.. I'm not saying I completely forget I'm playing a game but I do get pretty into it, and developing my guy, building fans, getting a sponsor to make more money and buy clothes and build attributes, and work toward diff goals. What goals do we have in EASHL? I don't expect this game to make a whole city, and tbh I DON'T need that. It would be nice, but I certainly understand EA Vancouver does have a budget. To me that doesn't mean the game can't allow me to play a TINY story mode, and have a career to go along with EASHL and build out my character. I personally feel like this would not be THAT much work. Heck, even charge people a small fee like 2k does to start with a slightly better player to help offset the costs of paying an extra programmer or 3 to make it happen. I don't think it should take more than a handful to add this.. I'm just tired of mindlessly grinding to get a hockey bag with an Arizona Coyotes Jacket.

@rsandersr47We all dream of a better reality for our beloved games, but we also need to accept the reality that is front of us. Do I think NHL 23 is a great game? It's average at best with lots of things that need changed and I'm only talking from an EASHL POV on this. I've said the changes and such I have wanted. I'm gonna wait for NHL 24 to showcase what they are bringing to the table to see if it fits MY needs. If I feel I'll get another 200+hrs of enjoyment out of the game then I will buy it Day 1. If a game doesn't meet my standards then I simply don't buy it. No one is forced to buy a product they don't like to, but instead they choose to. Like you want some story to go with your created player in the EASHL and I respect that, but for me that isn't my desire. I just want better gameplay and more than anything I want them to give me 120fps/2k or even 120/1080 graphic mode on the next-gen systems. I want the product I'm actually controlling to be the best experience because that is what I am playing 500+ games of. For me a story just falls flat and would probably not get changed yearly.

Also your suggestion of charging to increase your player slightly to start. Thing is that money would go into investor pockets and not back into the game. Just like the Ultimate Team money made. It doesn't get funneled back into the game how you would want it to. There was an article years ago that said how that type of money goes into funding new projects, marketing, and most of all investors. Games for the most part are based on the actual amount of units they predict to sell in certain periods of time.   We have CEOs of companies making too much money for doing next to nothing when the real talent making the games goes underpaid and underappreciated

People love to praise the NBA 2K series, but if you go and check out their reddit and such they aren't happy either. The PC version still isn't getting the next-gen update. So they getting a copy n paste of the current version with roster changes and missing features. Then their new addition The City for the created player stuff. Yeah check out the reaction to that here.. https://www.reddit.com/r/NBA2k/comments/14tf9ti/is_the_city_the_worst_change_that_2k_has_ever/

@KlariskraysNHL If most of the money gets funneled back to them then how does 2K operate? How are they able to make such a deep game? I get its more popular but the games are REALLY far apart.

People are always gonna complain about games but the truth is NHL doesn't even make a PC version and 2K is far from a copy and paste like any EA game. A new city, a new story, a new way to build your character, their franchise gets a story, much deeper ultimate team mode, every year they give QOL changes that people ask for... in EASHL we got a few new clothes, BAP got the same story, HUT has the same challenges every year, EASHL doesn't even get new arenas/ ODR's. NHL gets around 3 changes per year, usually 1 mode gets an update. Id be curious to know what they're doing differently. The negative people will always be the vocal majority and 2K sells FAR more copies so it makes sense to have more negative people. They also made the game a bit more defensive this year and that made a lot of people upset.

Avg at best is even a stretch imo.. outside of MLB it's the only game that doesn't have an online franchise mode. Franchise is also riddled with bugs, and not as user friendly as I'd like. Compared to ANY other major sports game this has the worst development path for players, look how you upgrade players in Madden, 2k, fifa. BAP is the worst single player mode amongst all major sports games. BAP has almost no story, your captain gives you pointless challenges before games, player development is poorly done. HUT is the worst ultimate team among all sports games. The challenges? Win 5 faveoffs, have 3 hits, score 2 goals. Fun? No. Madden has far more entertaining challenges and you learn about historic teams and players while playing. It's also much more fun to upgrade cards within their system. EASHL drops is filled with lots of bugs and riddled with trolls. Club is done fairly well it is cool to progress the club and get a bigger stadium.. just gotta deal with rangers. I only really enjoy the game because I like hockey.

@rsandersr47 NBA 2K23 sold over 10mil copies. NHL at it's peak i think was selling around 1.5mil copies. The real NBA has esport teams they also use to help promote the game, but of course it doesn't look very NBA-ish in terms of play. NHL is low on the popularity chain and when doing research about potential sales is how they determine budgets.

@KlariskraysNHLNope! Im 100% certain that im far more experienced than you.
And i know whats wrong with the game AND what excists and not. Period!
The problem is that EA want it that way… building fortune on frustration at the cost of a quality game.

It is the 3v3 modes that should be deleted. Other than in OT. But i dont like it in OT either. And IRL ive heard that NHL board is looking to change the ot ”rules”.

all the real experienced gamers i know have quit playing the game just because all of the problems, glitches and ”cheats”, (there is not actual cheats IN the game it self) and the additions of non reality modes.
We had a good EASHL team when it was exklusive 6v6 play. But it faded alway with the addition of other modes. Longer waiting time and less actuall games made it just boring.
Now, the problem was/is that most of those team/clubs is the ”exklusive” rights of friends only.
Its there i suggest some kind of a ”draft” system of the drop in gamers.
Its the lack of commitment of the developers to fix this that frustrerates the most of them.
But again, its what ea want.

But guess what. Im planning to stay around for atleast 40 more years! Active playing or not. Im collecting the hockey games. Even if i never play them.

I can say that ive played every single hockey game that has excisted! But im still older than the first.
i know my english is bad. Its not my native language but i think i make me understandable enough.

I think the one big problem is that EA does not listen to their fans enough. How many fans or people who play the game regularly have been really asked for example EASHL outdoor drop in hockey that has existed few years? I do not play EASHL drop in games at all because they do not give me that feeling of real hockey. And the hockey stuff you get from hockey bags are only cosmetic and that is why I do not bother to even open those bags anymore. The game needs something fresh that gives motivation to play more and more, to get hooked with the game you know. For example the stuff you earn from hockey bags need a meaning. Winning games should give players more than just cr points. Earning those hockey bags containing jeans and hoodies feels so pointless right now. The game should reward more if you play well. Do not get me wrong, I like to play EASHL club games with my friends and we have had times when we have had really fun with the game but the game is still missing something that would get the gaming experience to the next level.

What comes to 3 vs 3 EASHL, I think 3 vs 3 should not be deleted, but I do not play that mode either nowadays. I defenetly would play more if penaltyshots were deleted. It would be fun to try 4 vs 3 or even 3 vs 2 powerplay. The best scenario could be that players could choose to play with either penaltyshots or powerplay.

@KlariskraysNHLYeah I knew what the copy and paste comment was suggesting. I just wanted to point out how EA is worse in this department as all their games are cut and paste and they don't have a PC version at all.

My suggestion was to show ways NHL could make more money and you said it wouldn't help the game but now we're talking about NBA making more because they sell more copies? I guess I just dont understand how both of those can work.. personally I say NBA is better because it makes more money.. but it's also making so much because it's a lot better. Look at NHL vs NBA sales since NBA 2K started making games and how the gap just keeps growing. It's clear the company invests in their game. They're also okay with taking a year off if people are upset enough (see WWE 2K)

@FrOhl2011 It really doesn't appear you know how to discuss something with someone. You just want the game made exactly the way YOU want to play it. I don't play EASHL 3's much but it is a fun mode and enjoyed by a lot of people. For all we know, many people may not even buy it if a 3's mode wasn't in the game.

When you use opinions for arguments and follow them with "period" it shows a lack of intelligence. I don't always agree with Follisimo but he, like me; tries to be fair about his opinions and presents facts.

    So..

    1. Why should 3's be deleted (it was added because most people are searching for games with 2-3 people)
1.a. EASHL isn't the NHL so if because 3s are not NHL then they should get rid of the entire EASHL mode right? EASHL isn't reality, nor is HUT.

    3. How does you playing for "X" amount of years make you a subject matter expert on what gamers want today? In all honesty I would argue that you're likely more out of touch with the current gaming community for the same reasons.

    2. Explain exactly how this draft will work. You can't just suggest there be a draft with 0 explanation as to how it will work..

@rsandersr47 There is a ton of ways they could make some profits off the EASHL community if they did it like the NBA 2K way and I'd be fine with it.

I think the waiting time for finding a game depends a lot on your regional server, and whether or not you've enabled crossplay and relaxed your search settings. Our team plays 6's 3-4 nights a week and the only time searching for a game is an issue is during the finals. There's some weird matchmaking going on there that makes things take much longer. Other than that, haven't really had this issue.

We all deal with the little frustrations in this game, but there's a lot of us still playing because it's fun. I don't think it's fair to comment on the 'commitment' of the development team when you (likely) don't have any experience in the nuts-and-bolts of what it takes to put out a game like this every year. But I'm sure you'll tell us all about your engineering background now.

We all know what's wrong. We all watch and play hockey IRL - and so do the developers. But making a videogame is incredibly difficult and trying to cater to every single person's particular tastes when it comes to virtualizing a sport is probably the hardest game development in existence. It's not like you can invent lore like in most games.

It's a sport that people are intimately familiar with at a micro scale - we know what equipment players wear, we know the brad of pads goalies should have, we know where the water bottle should be, etc. When developing a new MMORPG or FPS shooter, developers have the luxury of inventing fantasy to create unique gaming moments and gameplay sequences.

EA SPORTS needs to tirelessly recreate the action of a real-world sport that people have an eagle-eye for the details. You'll never please everyone.

Like a nice pair of skates, the sport and game of hockey isn't one size fits all, unfortunately.

I agree that the majority of teams consist of just irl friends, but I know there are a bunch of open clubs willing to take on anyone - sometimes that casual feeling just hits better. Somehow these teams have working stat ticker presentation so there's also that.

I believe playoff matchmaking is still open to everyone unlike the old system so it *should* be as good but I think most of the top teams start trying to play in off-hours for more optimal results. When my buddy had his work hours switched, we started throwing a hail mary at playing suuuuper early at the risk of bad connections with overseas players but kept seeing our usual rivals. Could be a coincidence but idk.

I don't have much experience with the '91 NHL Hockey but hoo boy I love me some Olympic Hockey Nagano '98!

While I wouldn't be sad one bit to see 3 eliminators gone, 3s in other hand can be pretty fun and actually have it's utility when playing at low population hours. When ever you're struggling to find 6s games, instead of quitting the game, 3s is around the corner for a quick matchup and fast pacing mode.

I don't personally play club much but maybe leaving 3s for dropins only could ''possibly'' help 6s club...yet I don't see that as a solution as players doing 3s club will only migrate to 3s dropins making little to no change to 6s club. And make up for a lot of angry peoples.

The real problem right now is the community being split in two with old gen/new gen. They need to find a way to bring everyone all together or literally scratch out old gen. And give the ability to invite cross console.

I've heard too about the NHL OT rule change some months ago, I can't remember where though. They want to make OT 8 minutes instead of 5. But never heard of it again since.

While not a draft system, back in the day we had the lobbies opened for up to 20-30 peoples? (can't remember exactly) with a chat box, there was all kind of discussions going on, from peoples making team matchup for dropins, from casual talking, fights lol and recruiter looking for club members....but its all gone and apparently chatting in a chat box is too offensive now a day.

I'll add that I would like to see 6s dropins back with the NHL uniforms inside stadium and crowd and leave the outdoor rink/outfits from bags to 3s and One only.
Right now only two teams (black and white) for 6s with a lifeless crowd is ridiculously boring.
