Unbalanced X-Factors like Truculence are ruining the game

There was no penalty on this play, despite the Trucluence abuser taking 4-5 visible strides, likely more but he's out of frame.. that should be Charging.

Then the OP X-Factor knocks down a player without the puck - that should be interference.

How anyone at EA can sit and watch this and still think X-Factors are the way to display player differentiation and that they're not just some stupid gimmick to further the 'individualisation' of this franchise is out to lunch.

  • The first hit is clean, the second is iffy. He doesn't change his skating lane after hitting the puck carrier. Since the defender has the established skating lane, it's probably not interference.

But I'm confused the other thread says checking doesn't work.  So which is it?

Both can be true. Being able to line up a hit from 30+ feet away, while simultaneously hitting another player without the puck should result in a penalty. Either charging, or interference.

That also means checking is 'broken'.

I count 3. If you assume left skate off screen, right skate, then left skate again. Though charging, and interference are really screwy in this game anyways. I’ve been called for interference when playing the puck. I’ve been called for charging after I hit the boards first.

I know the rule is more than 2 strides and accelerating in order to check. It’s really hard to tell off screen if the defender changed direction first (assuming the first stride was turning).

Though I can tell you if they actually went by the letter of the rule in game, 80% of Rivals players would be playing 5 on 3 the entire game.

@KlariskraysNHL checking works with truculence, it doesn't a large part of the time without it, which is why most players play with truculence as their ability.

I could have a 95 body checking attribute, get the hit bubble and miss on 50% of my checks but if I have the minimum body checking (76 I think? Been a long time since I've played) and have truculence on I can make 95% of my hits proc an animation.

My take on this "X Factor stuff", you know, just to keep it diplomatic, is complete fluff and enables not-so-good "gamers" to feel somewhat relevant. The hype train reeled in a certain demographic, and that's currently how this game is being played: very little skill, and exploit abusiveness. Also factor in that this game isn't where it should be, especially for the consumer cost, and you get an absolute travesty of a hockey video game.

Ultimately, zero competition equals a poor quality product.
