Game Tax

Curious. Can someone explain the reasoning behind taxing players that sell their player cards?

Edit: Moved thread to HUT forums. -CM

  • @dogheels It's like this in MMOs. You tax the seller because you are trying to get some of the coins out of the pool in a way to stop inflation.

    Would not putting a restriction in place  such as the one now. Where there is a limit as to how much the market value of the card is worth. My contention with this is. Its a one sided tax. Buyer pays nothing. And the seller, more times than not  takes a loss on the card, when they eventually sell it  do to devaluation of market value. I do realise that players do try to buy low and sell high. But that's how a capitalistic society works. Just as an example. I bought a McDavid card several months ago for 350000 coins. I sold it two weeks ago for 190000, plus I was taxed 5% for the sale. So my total loss was 169500 in coins. Either Ea has to adjust this tax to align with value and devaluation  or scrap it all together. Personally. It achieves nothing, except for harnessing the sellers  who the majority of the times take losses.

    @dogheels People would just buy cards and immediately resell them for 100-1000 coins more infinitely if the tax wasn't in place.. it exists for good reason

    And the problem with that is? You do realise that no one owns anything in this game. Its like a game of monopoly  where you accumulate wealth and property  but at the end of the game. You still have nothing. The selling and buying is up to the individuals making that transaction. If the buyer is willing to pay the price  why does the game  which owns absolutely everything. Need to exercise a tax. What about when you buy a card for say 200 000  and later on decide to sell it. Unfortunately as the market has changed  so has your original cost. Now you are only able to sell him for 150 000. Plus the sales tax of 7500. Now your overall lose is 57000. This is a game. Not the damn Stock Market. Screw the tax.

    @dogheels The problem with that is that inflated prices make cards harder to obtain for the entire player base, and would indirectly force people to spend time in the auction house all day like it is the stock market to get enough coins to keep up with ever inflating prices rather than playing the game. Every single sports game across developers have some sort of tax on the marketplace.

    There is no actual value in any of these cards EA puts out. In essence, you are playing with make believe cards  which you don't own, and the game is treating this like there is actual value in it. The only value this game has, is when EA charges for packs with actual currency. And even then. The buyer owns nothing. Ea has no problem flooding the market with insignificant 70s and non prime 80s cards. But they hold back on the higher rated cards, in the dire hopes that eventually, the gamers will cave and actually buy packs. The game is about playing with the best team you can muster. Not about the worth. Its also why EA brings out different variations of player cards. Its all in the concept of garnering money as best they can. And pack openings is a true temptation, in helping make that happen. The game is all smoke and mirrors.

    @dogheels

    It really sounds like HUT isn't the mode for you. Since you seem to have problem after problem with so many aspects of this mode, maybe an offline mode would be better? That way, you're only playing with base items and pretty much avoid the myriad of issues you've had with HUT.

    Obviously, paying for packs is going to give you more chances at the higher rated items. The same items you also can earn for free. Of course, that takes a lot more effort than buying pack after pack and hoping for the best or getting extra fodder for trade ins to build those items. Even then, there's no guarantee you're going to shoot to D1 just because you have a stacked team. It still takes skill to get there.

    We all shouldn't have the expectation that higher overalls equal wins. This mode is not only about playing with the best team you can muster, but putting your own skills to the test in what is a very highly competitive game. Generating good scoring chances and shutting down your opponent's offense is going to get better results than just depending on 99s to score for you. You'll often see lower rated teams beat a higher one due to their personal skill. It's going to be more challenging so they've got to step up their game and rely on reading their opponent, using the right strategies, anticipation, proper line changes, etc., instead of throwing a stacked team out there and assuming more of your shots are going in.

    Where are the smoke and mirrors? You can see the probabilities of each pack you purchase with points in the store. How are we not being transparent about this? Every item can be earned for free as well. We don't hide the fact that buying packs is a shortcut to getting the best items faster.

    I only play offline. However I don't understand your so called logic in your rebuttal comment. I did not inferr that higher rated players should result in more wins. Thats your statement. My contention was the flooding of the market place with variations of same player cards, escalating the cost for an already pre-established value. Is an 98 Cale Makar card any better than the 97 (Example only). Not really. But the cost is quite different. The smoke and mirrors comment was in relationship to this sort of thing. Pretty much the same card, dressed in a different so called pkg. With the cost being extended. I also did not assume that EA was not being transparent. Just the opposite. They make it quite known, what you are getting. In ending this. Since there is not going to be a mutual agreement here. This was a comment, entirely expressed by myself. Exercising the affordability to do so, on a forum such as this. I was not looking for any sort of support. Frustrations about this game are evident in all the comments put out in this communal platform. I was only displaying what I thought might be a better avenue to follow. Personally. Didnt really appreciate the comment about whether Hut was my so called cup of tea!
