Put a server in Southwestern Ontario

It’s a complete joke there is no server in southwestern Ontario. Absolutely ridiculous losing games cause some sweaty qc goof is sitting right beside the server building and you guys have it so proximity to the server determines the success of input and games in general. Joke of a company

Proximity to server does not determine success of input.

As with any multiplayer game ever made that uses dedicated servers, the game state is transmitted at the same time to all clients with minor discrepancies in latency that are heavily dependant on ISP routes and subsequently at the mercy of the user's home networking setup. The effect this latency has on the game in normal circumstances is minimal and usually (but not always) indiscernable to the user unless there are technical issues along any of the hops your console takes to the server.

Of course, high server utilization could cause lag spikes, but these spikes would typically affect all users on the same session meaning there's no advantage given to any one team or player.

This changes in OVP where Peer-to-Peer connection is used. If your opponent is the host team, they will have a connection advantage but again - this advantage is usually minimal in games with a sub-40 MS response time. That advantage will grow as the response time increases.

Personally, I'd like to see OVP games on dedicated servers, but this would require a much larger investment into hosting costs.

@burner99 There is no server in Ontario in general. They use FIFA data centres.

Shooter games yes you want best possible ping time. But a title like NHL is not that big of a deal. Unless we're talking about you on 50 ping while you're opponent is 10 ping.

I beat QC players all the time and I don't live in Montreal.

I disagree.  With a fast game as hockey you want the best optimal input.  Even a half second delay can make a difference to a poke check attempt, a shot on goal, attempting to cover the puck as a goalie etc…

I lived in Montréal for 5 years and had fibre cable and my ping was always around 10 or so.  I’m now in Ontario and I usually get about 20-25 and there is a difference IMO.

@KidShowtime1867 I can promise you that you don't want OVP games on dedicated servers, at least the ones that EA uses. 30 ping on their servers feels more sluggish and delayed than 100 ping as the away team P2P. The servers they utilize are awful for 1v1... for EASHL where you aren't player switching, they perform much better.

Lmaooo... Half second delay would equal to 500ms. You play on 500ms connection? Do you realize the average response time of someone gaming is 250ms just to put things into perspective, pros around 120-150ms.

I guarantee you can't tell the difference between 20ms and 10ms.

There are Call of Duty top 250 ranked players that play on 60ms going up against players with under 7ms.

    Ping definitely matters in versus.

Winning and losing has nothing to do with ping/

but Ping effects the button response pressing poke check, switching players, and your opponents poke check response time in comparison to your counter and the poke check happens at twice the time it normally does is a make or break moment,

On a stop watch start stop most people can do under 20 ms.

    Now imagine 40 ms.

    vs's a game of 20 ms

This a click quicker or slower however you want to look at it.

Personally I do not play anything over 30ms.I check before every game.

EA lets you see the games ping before puck drop with out pausing the game. Hit Start and X,  ping will come up,.

I know for example they allow your ping maximum to pre selected in HUT games,

wish we could have this in versus .
