Drop In party change for 25

The drop in system is meant to be for people who are either playing by themselves or maybe with a friend to go in and enjoy a game of pickup 6v6. It should not be a place where full parties like this can bully those solo players and improve their ranks. I think we need to look towards limiting the max number of people you can bring in a drop in party to 3 for 6s and 2 for 3s. All this is doing is giving those that want to learn the game a chance to be demolished and uninstall.

Edit: Redacted the names as requested.

  • Sometimes it'd be hard for my buddy and I to even find a 3v3 club game so, after blitzing 3v3 Eliminator, yeah, we'd go beat up on randoms in drop ins.

Really shouldn't be like this but hey, if you're just gonna allow randoms into club games now, then we should be able to do the same.

  • I mean, I don't really know what you can do, if a bunch of buddies don't want to create a club, they don't have to I guess, and I know at least on last gen consoles it can get really slow to find a 6s club game so maybe that's what these players are doing,  maybe they were searching for 15 minutes trying to find a game before they gave up and switched to drop-ins, I'm not going to assume.

Either way, if you're an "elite" player, you probably should stay in the club lobbies as much as possible, isn't that more fun anyway? Stomping on drop-in players who have never played with each other before sounds boring as hell, I haven't played a drop-in game in years, except for like, one game as a goalie, but NHL also isn't my "I'm gonna play this online casually by myself" game. I play with the same guys I've been playing with for years on Thurs/Fri/Sat and that's all I need. Maybe there could be "weak/flexible" skill based matchmaking in drop-ins, like, it tries to search for players +/- 2000 RP first, idk.

Either way, even if it's "pickup", it's an online game, it's going to have some level of competitiveness to it, and unless they implement some sort of skill-based matchmaking in drop-ins, which I don't really think they should, you might get wrecked sometimes. If you're willing to play games online, and have any interest in continuing to play and get better, you may as well take opportunities like this to see what works. Even if a lot of what they do seems cheesy/glitchy, you should also be able to see how they play as a team etc. As much as I would like to protect new players so they don't leave after getting stomped over and over in their first handful of online games, I also think it's hard to improve in any online game without seeing what good players do and if you can't stomach a **bleep** matchup once in a while that "PvP" gaming probably isn't for you.

  • Please remove or edit the screenshot so the gamertags do not show as it's not meant to be allowed.

As for the issue sadly I don't think that will happen.  I mean last year they combined Drop-Ins and EASHL so games could potentially be found faster because Drop-In players said they couldn't find games.

That's so wild, man. Back in the NHL12-14 days, you could EASILY find drop-in games. I feel like they've ruined the whole EASHL/WoC experience with too many modes but hey that's just my opinion.

I agree that teams queuing up together should just play club games. You already have a full team...

The old system was very frequently trolled. It was rare to get into a game without someone choosing a position they had no intention of playing. So many times someone just sat in the middle delaying the game getting started and locking someone else out from playing. The old system was great when nobody trolled. Sadly, it wasn't that common. The new system of choosing your position resolves that and I'll take that any day over the old one. I think the main problem with drop-ins is that hardly anyone seems to take them seriously. It's open season for selfish gameplay and trolling. I definitely think changes are needed, but the old system would be a perfect solution.
