Hustle and puck ragging questions

Start off with the easy question. Will we still have the clicking the left thumb stick as hustle? Because it really is awkward and just destroys our controllers.

2nd is there a plan to stop puck ragging in a person's offensive zone. For example the back and forth spamming behind our nets then kick it out front when the opponent finally caves in and rushes him.

A fix for hut could be faster energy drain if the opponent is holding the puck with that one player for too long. Realistically hockey is fast pace and you never see a player hold on to the puck for longer than 10 seconds. With the puck ragging you got players just facing the boards and holding the puck for a minute plus.

  • 100% agree with the hustle button being literally broken. PS5 controllers are expensive, and I go through multiple in a year because of the hustle button being mapped to L3. And now they have puck protection mapped to it as well. PLEASE either allow us to map the controller how we would like or give us more options other than the automatic Michigan setup. Puck protection needs to be back on the X/A button.

As far as I know, hustle hasn't changed. I've also never had a controller break from hustle. Even before I started using Elite controllers. However, with 24 I remapped hustle to use the left paddle. Again, that requires a controller that offers that feature. Without a controller that has separate profiles, the best I could advise is to remap the controls. In that case, it would affect every app/game unfortunately.

I don't see how we need to do anything with offensive zone ragging. If they're waiting to bait you to chase them behind the net, do your best to cut off their options from there. They're always looking for that pass to the slot. If someone is sticking to the boards, I'll just boardplay them.

Okay but if you cut off the passing lane they can just sit there the whole period and ragg it lol.

It usually happens if you go down a goal so essentially they are wasting time. They do it for a reason because they know the minute you pressure them the AI can't intercept a pass and it's an easy tap in.

So an energy drain to someone holding on to the puck with the same player for a long period of time would probably be the best fix in HUT. That or don't give them so much puck protection when facing the boards, stop the puck from bouncing right back to them.

We have been seeing this method abused at the competitive scene and is pretty embarrassing to watch.

Are you using human defenders? My club does and we haven't seen teams abusing this. We also tend to have enough coverage in front to let someone pressure them behind the net and force them to move the puck or risk a turnover.

I don't think it breaks controllers, but constantly clicking the left stick in probably does contribute to wearing out the potentiometers. Personally, I don't have this problem since I now use controllers with mappable back buttons. I can see why it would be annoying on a stock Xbox/Playstation controller, tho. Really, I don't know why game devs don't just let players map the controls to their liking.

  • Are you on Xbox or Playstation?  If Xbox I could suggest some great controllers that are cheaper and better than the Microsoft controllers but are wired with a nice long sturdy cord.

  • Respectfully, this is the global standard for almost all games I see is putting the Sprint/Hustle/Turbo/etc on LS/L3 so I don't understand why they would want to change that. The only thing I could make the argument for changing is to make it a toggle button instead of a hold. That way, you only have to press it once and it remains active while skating forward but once you try to turn to a side, it automatically deactivates. I've seen some FPS' do this as an alternative and I think that would be the best way to combat this issue.

  • Toggle should always be the bare minimum. While I'm the target audience for one, I don't feel like spending half my PS5's worth on an elite controller, even if Remnant II has shown I got the dreaded drift.

Unfortunately there will always be ragging. I agree with some sort of penalty/debuff but I kinda think there should be more to it than just possession time.
