Here's another one. I am not doing a deke. Just holding the puck on my forehand. My opponent misses their poke check. Their stick goes into (through my skate as you can see on the different angle) my skate. I toe drag and get a good shot off.
I get tripping penalties for far much less than this. I will poke check and touch the very tip of my stick blade to the back of my opponent's skate and they fall.
It's ridiculous to expect people that paid $80+ dollars on a game that is broken. Then we are told that it will take until the next year's game until it's fixed.
This is a perpetual issue with EA Sports NHL games. No one expects a perfect product but there are constant consistent issues every single year. Nothing gets done.
I have complained multiple times a year about the checking in the game being inconsistent. It's like the game just randomly decides when a tripping, hooking, or slashing animation will happen. Then when it does happen, it either looks like it completely misses the player or barely touches them at all. Then when it should count, the stick makes obvious contact and even goes through the player and no animation happens.
What does that say to you? What kind of expectations are EA Sports setting here for players?
"Yeah, we know it's broken but hopefully it gets fixed or fixed in the next game."?
That doesn't show very much confidence and it doesn't give the player any impression that EA Sports cares either.
