World Of Chel Hot Take: Skating Attributes

Hot take: skating attributes should be inversely related:

acceleration and agility, speed and balance, strength and endurance

If accel increases agility decreases, if balance increases speed decreases, Etc.

Since the introduction of x-factors in NHL 22 player build metas have consistently been about being as fast and agile as possible, making no room for strong slow skaters. I think a system like this can help add variety to the type of competitive builds we see in WOC. Let me know what you all think.

  • You are asking for too much. This change would make a great simulation like game. We are not EAs target group. The arcade kids are...

The attributes already work like that (sort of).  You need high agility in order to make turns when going at high speed.  Sinking points into one or both of those attributes theoretically means you are sacrificing elsewhere.  I think the real solution is to make goalies better, both in general, but especially on the breakaway.  The conversion rate on breakaways is arcade level high (not to mention CPU defenders are pylons), so it reinforces using small speedy guys to get to the net, make a quick move and score.  If that setup becomes slightly less viable, it forces more team play to score, which then increases the utility of other builds.

You should be able to adjust that with sliders. However, that will be a global adjustment and not for one individual.

Yes I agree there is some semblance of balancing already in the game. Though there needs to be more done because the meta has been to be a very fast and agile skater. I think there should be more consequences to builds. Hence my hypothetical would be, you can be agile (90 ovr) but struggle to accelerate (70 ovr).

How the CPU plays is worthy of its own discussion thread though I agree with your points.
