Forum Discussion
At one point in time there was a developer that would come in on his own free time and answer questions they could answer. Then came the huge problem that caused them to stop showing up and instead they just read the forums and have their council people deliver ideas. The problem was people didn't want to accept the answers and reasoning given. So if the community can't act like grownups accepting answers and reasons then there is no point to having it.

Ehh, not to defend how nasty the community was getting but from what I remember the staff didn't exactly handle it well either - I was told that there was nothing was wrong (the game is "perfect") and I was just bad at the game for example. One of the main problems people were having (and let's be honest, still have), is the sheer amount of red tape behind goings on and constant "we'll just have to see" replies that cause further frustration.

Was that by an EA employee or some random in the forums? Also, this community, in my opinion anyhow is kinda better than most for a company of this size. Albeit I’m only speaking of the NHL section. But some stuff you read in any (and I mean any lol) blizzard forum about World of Warcraft my lord it’s bad. Theres certainly hate in these forums but that’s what happens when everyone gets a voice. I personally (can’t speak for others and have probably only been active on these forums this year) have found them far more accepting than most. Again, only my personal experience but read any post in a league of legends forum or counter strike forum for example and you’ll feel so much differently about treatment and accessibility to devs here.

The person who visited these forums on his days off is now someone leading College Football and well we see how great that is. He was a very great person and had multiple talks with them outside of forums about NHL. People just can't accept things they don't want to hear. Too many think they will get a true authentic game but in reality the goal is more of a 80% real/20% arcade feel. It's just that 20% arcade is what people find a way to make a glaring thing.
When questions are asked I try and find the answers out and see if I can answer them on forums for you all. I know when 26 launches there will be many of questions and I hope that I can help explain things even if they want to agree with the direction or not.

When someone tells you the mechanics and why things are the way they are then you need to just accept it whether you agree with it or not. It's the vision the video game has so yes when he explained things he was right. And as for the whole "wait and see" that is probably never going to change. Was like this with Littman, Rammer, and now the new guy. Remember the whole legends in various modes that didn't end up happening but one of them mentioned it? Yeah that gets you in deep trouble and another reason you don't announce anything unless it's concrete.

I know for a fact nobody who argued with you said, "the game is perfect" and not once did anyone say, "you are bad at the game". The mere suggestion that, based on the videos you provided, that there may have been a slight misunderstanding of the controls is not in the same realm of saying "you're bad at the game" and you need to stop taking such comments as a slight on your skill.

Red tape? It's a feedback forum. There are no documents to sign or push through bureaucracy. Much of the feedback (please note how I said much and not all) is absolutely a skill issue or, lately, it's been GPT generated 'feedback posts' where people think prompting Ai to "formulate ideas" constitutes real, actual feedback.

Exactly.
People conflate being told how a mechanic works with saying this is exactly how it should be. Really goes to show the true intentions of some people aren't to get to the bottom of whatever issue they're having but to be told they're right and that's why the dev's stopped interacting here and I don't blame them at all.

Bingo.

When I get mad that a puck literally went underneath me leading to a goal even though I was in perfect position, it's just that my guy was *hovering 1 inch above the ice* and you explain the mechanics behind that, yeah I can accept that answer at face value but time and time again when it keeps happening, to me, it shows the team just doesn't care enough to accept the fault and try to fix it for next year.
How do you come to that conclusion before admitting that maybe you're not giving the player you're controlling enough time and space to intercept passes? If a problem YOU'RE having is seemingly going unrepaired (by your estimation) - then what should that tell you?
You conclude the "team doesn't care" before conceding a possible skill issue.

The AI STILL hangs up on every faceoff in 3v3
Video?

they STILL let you just waltz past em for an easy goal more than a decade later.
Again, these scenarios aren't as black and white as you claim. Sure, Ai defending can lose a step to a speedy forward - but how was that forward allowed to gain so much speed?

We've been over this in DM's and public forum - I know you'll side with him as you claim you are buddies and that's fine, it doesn't change the fact it was said. Literally said the game was perfect and said maybe my team just sucked. I don't have the patience to sift through over a decade of posts on AHQ and Facebook to find the exact response so anyone is free not to believe me but I'll stay as sure as I've always been.
Red tape for EA staff responses - I've brought this up for years now spanning back to older forums; you know this.
Dude I couldn't care less about the struggle between authenticity and arcadeyness. It's a game at the end of the day and it needs to run and respond well (which it clearly does not). For example, just because Close Quarters is working as intended doesn't mean players shouldn't raise a brow and be mad when it's OP and abused like many other things in the game.
You can side with EA all you want but I'm here to say everyone should be fighting for change if they disagree with certain aspects of the current product - it's their right as a customer.
I AM LITERALLY NOT ATTACHED TO THE GROUND in the scenario I posted. I swear nobody watches any of the video evidence I post. I've had instances where our goalie does the right animation and should easily make a save but he goes against the laws of physics and quite literally hovers above solid ice, unable to do anything useful until a whistle. No defending it - this shouldn't be happening at all.
You must be a HUT only player then, I assume? Never once have you EVER had your team jersey reset back to default black and white? My blue chrome gloves show up as purple. The last team I played stains our jerseys with their colours in the locker room. The other team's goalie in Eliminator is wearing MY goalie's pads that I created. Even our logos can get swapped or made default Anaheim Ducks. This has been a thing since 15 and I'm just supposed to accept it? Wouldn't matter that much if I could save a jersey scheme but noooo.
You've seen my videos about faceoffs; you know exactly what I'm talking about. I wasn't allowed to record anything in the closed beta and matchmaking was a bust in the second test.
How is it not black and white? The AI is practically useless and the exact same thing happened in 26's tests so clearly it's gonna happen yet again for launch, especially now that there are more perks making players faster. You say that like it's my fault for not being able to be both a forward and a defenseman at the same time. You just hustle and that's that, they won't defend you. "Just have a whole team of humans" is only a bandaid bypass. The team should be looking to make a great offline game that translates well to online with balances. The trickle down effect would help with every mode the game has to offer.
