Hello, I just got a new laptop with windows 10, and I downloaded spore via origin. when I click play I get the error:A required security module cannot be activated.This program cannot be executed (8016).I tried uninstalling and redownloading, as well as setting the game to compatibility mode. EA online help are only at the most inconvenient times for me, so any help from this forum would be fantastic. Thanks!

However, patching did not resolve this for me. I see no reason to use CCleaner. My computer is one week old. There is nothing to clean out of my registry. There have been no failed installations and re-installations. Yes, the Origin download is the digital version. If you bought the computer recently, there is a good chance it has a SkyLake processor. If you have followed the above instructions (disabling all startup options), and it still does not work, see if you can find a BIOS update for your motherboard. If the computer is very recent, you may find that the manufacturer has not released one yet. That is where I am sitting with my laptop.My desktop worked because it is an older Core 2 processor. The CD version did not work on the desktop because Spore has a problem with some (not all) Windows XP 64 bit systems. The digital download did work though.I would like to note: Most of the problems I have seen recently are with Windows 10, not Windows 7. The issues I am aware of with Windows 7 are easier to fix (I can't help though, since I have not dealt with them personally). The one fix that I recall people claimed to work was running it as admin in compatibility mode for XP. I don't know about Windows 7 with a SkyLake processor though.

After researching your motherboard I see that it is a Skylake motherboard. My best advice would be to make sure that you have updated your BIOS. From my research Windows 10 was blocking the older SECUROM games as well but this appears to have been corrected. It is also possible that Windows 7 could be blocking the games.Try googling Error Code 8016 and Skylake motherboards for more information. Also check out any ASROCK motherboard forums for help from the ASROCK community.

This particular error happens before Spore finishes launching. As such, it never gets to the point where it installs the updates. I have been unable to find offline update installers, so I cannot patch it manually. As such, this solution is completely invalid.

Hi,

I buyed spore one years old ago. in my old pc win7 all work good but i buyed also a new pc with win 10 and spore make error 8016. I tryed installed patch on links i saw and except bug my origin anything work and only write error 8016 can i have some help i'm bored of this bug..... thanks 🙂

As mentioned in this topic. If you have a newer computer, it often needs a newer BIOS update from your manufacturer.

Spore has problems with SkyLake processor if this is not up-to-date.
