Any Point in Registering Older Games?

For Christmas, I received a CD-ROM of SimCoaster (published as Theme Park Inc. outside the United States), a game I remember playing when I was little at my grandparents' house. After installing, it asks me to register it electronically to receive technical support. I was wondering if there was still a point to this (or if it would even work) given the age of the game and the lack of digital distribution.
