I'm sorry for the late response.
It looks like the cache is overflowing in Spore.
I have instructions here on how to clear the ingame cache in Spore.
Expand the game cache in Spore

Thanks for your suggestions. I cleared the cache, and in fact removed all the package files from the directory after backing them up. Everything appears in our Creature Library now, but our primary savegame still has a different species that we did not create. Also, clicking on anything linking to Galactic Adventures from that game causes a hard dump to the desktop with a fatal exception that I have to dig out of Spore logs in order to find. I should mention that this is the Steam version and I have verified the integrity of the game. I have attached an image that shows what happens when we encounter an Adventure,with programming code where the captain's name should be.
Again, please help!

Hey Jakob,
I'm not good with Steam. What happens if you re edit your capitan again and save it. Maybe give it a different name. Looks like he lost the entry!
