Unable to register Spore/Access Spore online features even from EA Play

I originally purchased the game on Steam, but I reached out to EA support and they were able to add the game to my EA library after I showed proof of purchase. I launch and play the game through the EA Play application now. However, I am still unable to log in/register the game to an online account, so I can't access the online Spore features. I have also tried the EA Chat With Us tab & emailing support but have gotten nowhere. Is there a fix for this?
