Dirt Rally 2.0 in VR is not working with an AMD Radeon 7900 XTX

Hello Answer HQ,

i have an issue with Dirt Rally 2.0 since i switched to the AMD Radeon 7900 XTX. As soon as i start the game via SteamVR the Monitor goes black and it says it hasn't signal anymore, also on the Valve Index HMD i didn't see any picture, i tried it multiple times but one time i saw at least the first game screen in the VR headset but it was freezed along with Monitor says it has no signal. On other games VR is working i tried Half Life: Alyx. First i tried to remove the complete NVIDIA Stuff from my Computer, then removed the AMD Graphics Driver, and installed it again, i also tried to disable HDR, Variable Refreshrate, Leaved my OC settings to Stock, reinstalled SteamVR, reinstalled Dirt Rally 2.0. But i am now out of my arguments or ideas what that issue causes. Is this a driver related issue or is the way the game handles VR with this card? Thats why i am asking if you can help me with that problem. My Graphic Card Driver Version is 22.12.2

I have also uploaded a DxDiag. Can you help me?

EDIT: I have tried it again now the game crashes with an error: Access violation at address 0x8249564d in module 'd3d11.dll' + 0x10564d. d3d11.dll

Along with an AMD Drivermessage that say there was an "Driver Timeout"

EDIT: I also tried Elite Dangerous and Assetto Corsa it also crashed as soon as i run it with VR. I guess it is of course a driver related issue sorry for posting here.

Greetings

  • After several days of troubleshooting and going through every single option in the game, I discovered an issue: the game will experience issues with crashing no matter what you try unless you set shader quality from high to low.

Seriously, that's all you have to do. Unfortunately this means potato graphics since shader quality is probably the setting with the biggest boost to fidelity.

EDIT: Also, had the same crash message issue after changing from Nvidia to AMD. I ended up having to reinstall windows to fix that particular issue.

  • Installed GOTY dirt rally 2.0, game kept crashing upon launching. have done 3 re-installs, 8 verify integritys.. feel like ive made every method under the sun not work somehow. ''Access violation at address 0x2bb353a9 in module 'dirtrally2.exe' + 0xb953a9''. dirtrally2.exe are constant errors i am getting.

  • Installed GOTY Dirt Rally 2.0 on steam about a week ago now, downloaded the game and then when i tried opening it the splashscreen showed up and the game crashed entirely, since then ive done 3 reinstalls, moved the location of install 3 times, done like 9 verify integritys.. Anyone have a clue? Ive seen this error happen to like 7 people online that have at least wrote about it. The full error is ''Access violation at address 0x2bb353a9 in module 'dirtrally2.exe' + 0xb953a9. dirtrally2.exe''. No clue what it means, tried a lot of things that came to mind: i.e compatibility mode, administator permissions, etc. PC specs are: GTX 1050 TI, 8gb of ram, Intel I5 8600k. Well above 80 gigs of space on the drive it is inside of.

  • It's okay I can help.

Go to Documents > My Games > Dirt Rally 2.0

There will be a config file for the regular game as well as one for VR. Open the VR one and make sure Fullscreen is set to 0. Should fix the issue.

@ChaosEncouragerThnx, setting Fullscreen to 0 fixed the issue for me and I can even set the shader quality back to high without crashing.

  • Nice! Glad that it helped.

Yeah, a driver update mostly resolved the crashing issue related to shader detail for me as well. I still get the occasional crash but it's a lot better now.

Thanks for the fullscreen = 0 tip. Had the same issue, but with non-VR. RX 7900 XTX also.
