Buying new equipment
Does buying new clubs do anything effect your game or is this just for show?

Equipment is purely cosmetic, just looks different in game.
You can buy 'specs' to apply to clubs and ball, which slightly boost your skill attributes when hitting shots with that equipment. You'll also unlock specs for completing some quests associated with career mode tournaments.

It levels up as you play the game, unlocking rewards like in game currency, cosmetic items, and occasionally equipment specs. There's a 'premium' tier which unlocks extra stuff too, though you need green tokens to unlock it and they can only be bought with real money.
