No real ball spin on tour settings
I think this game was designed for arcade only. where you add more spin to the ball by tapping your buttons. i have a maxed level player(50) with all legendary specs on everything. I play on tour set...

Note that shot type and club selection has a huge impact here. You need to consider these as well as just trying to counter backspin by hitting low in your example.
