Now that I've gone through 150+ hours playing the game, here is what I think

Hello everybody. First of all, please, accept my most sincere apologies both, because of my quite poor English and the length of this long par 7 hole I'm writing here.

I love golf, I was a member of the Royal Spanish Golf Association (federation as we call it), and got to the local course a couple of times having a par in a tough par 4 there in the 3rd hole of my second nine holes set. Then had to leave because both job and back troubles not helping me into this. So my biggeer experience comes from the Links LS days when it was an Access's game and then a Microsoft's game.

I have to admit I never played Tiger Woods, so can't compare to them and accept I might have lost a great game there. As you see, I'm fairly new to this one (I think I bought it back in November 2023 or so) and have gone through my first 150 hours in it. So I believe I can have an adequate experience to share my thoughts on the game.

I surely LOVE it. Yes, I understand there are some glitches here and there, a lack of features all around, et all, but I LOVE it. Being said that, let me write a list of my thoughts, ideas, criticism, et all I have come to find in my sessions and I've been writing for the last week or two. There is not a particular order other than the one they all came to my mind. Here we go!

This is the list of things I see in the game that can (and IMHO should) be improved/corrected/added, plus some others that just would be nice, but absolutely not imperative (again IMHO):

  1. I can’t speak for console gamers as I never had one, but sure I’d like to see the option to play in my computer with my girlfriend and/or sons with out created golfers. Actually, one can do it while the rest are forced to play with the famous players the game came with.
  2. Commentators is something I love as they create much immersion in the game as if we were watching it on TV, BUT their sayings are chosen wrong. When I play career (I am already in PGA) all comments on my partner refer to my results and not his/her, and sometimes mine are referred to them… It sure is annoying.
  3. Drops are quite poor in my opinion. You cannot choose where to drop the ball. You chose one of three options (two of them always have been the same for me) and the game puts the ball where it wants to. I should be able to drop the ball wherever I want (following the rules, obviously).
  4. Tees should be an option. I understand that, playing career, we shall play the back tees because we are pros, but when playing a quick round or whatever online or offline… why don’t we have the option to choose them? More yet, why don’t we have to tee the ball from wherever we want? Many times, pros don’t tee from the middle because there is a tree or whatever obstacle there and teeing from the right (or left) gives you a better line/view.
  5. Minor thing. Balls usually are not marked when in the green until all players have reached it and the game “automarks” balls as soon as they are there.
  6. You mention that we can play in the morning, or afternoon, or… well, as far as I have played (I’m actually about 135 hours since start), every game was in the morning despite the time I’m teeing off at hole 1. Is this working right? The same applies to different forecasts.
  7. Courses. Yes, we always want more. I must say I do LOVE the ones we already have. Stunning for sure.
  8. Out of bounds. Is there a way to know where they are ahead of time? I’m not sure if they’re marked in some way on that top view or wherever it could be. If it is not, it would be a great addition to have it noticed, please.
  9. Online Tournaments. Isn’t it possible to have some for us 3-clickers that are not played Arcade? I just don’t like that mode. If it is not, then I’m off and no drama at all. Thank you for “putting” it in consideration.
  10. The infamous RNG. Sure, it is something exasperating, but I can live with it. Anyway, would it be that hard to make it possible to turn it on/off when configuring a game?
  11. Leaderboards. Would it be possible to make the final leaderboard the same way as the ones you show in the middle of a tournament? I mean, can’t you show at the end the results of all 4 rounds of the tournament? Not a big deal, but would be nice to see.
  12. Distance to the pin. That stat isn’t working well. It always show mine to be 0.00 ft and trust me I’m not that good.
  13. Replays and the ability to save some shots would be a nice addition too.
  14. Choosing pin locations when setting up games (something like packs of them like let’s say day 1, day 2, etc.) would be great too.
  15. A driving range and practice area would be nice too.
  16. Improving the simulation mode so we can have the info a real golfer has when playing the game is a must IMHO. I mean, in that top view you have some distances and that is ok, but nothing about elevation differences (when they’re noticeable) and, above all, some notes abut green height levels or something like that. After all, a golfer can get down and see how much the terrain drops. I’m not asking for exact measures and that, but at least some rough idea of it.
  17. Being able to select the position of the ball in between your feet would be good, but maybe having the different types of shots, that might not be needed after all.
  18. I’m not sure, but I think rough, heavy rough, sand, and that stuff’s penalties to the shots are not working right, are they?
  19. There is an ugly camera change when the ball goes to the water that would be nice to be fixed so the message about the water doesn’t fall anywhere else.
  20. The quests are not working fine regarding the accomplishment notifications as far as I’ve seen.
  21. Control camera. I don’t know why, but keying in Home, Pg Up, et all doesn’t work for me. It seems like there is some trouble with these keys, maybe because us, laptop users, share them in the numeric pad area… Just guessing. Is it working for anyone?
  22. Golfers’ reaction animation after a shot. I’m curious about how is it decided. I mean, I can’t understand showing yourself crazily happy after a perfect shot being send into the rough because of the wind, but then just waving somehow happily to the crowd after a putt sunk from 50+ ft 😊.

Thank you for reading an commenting anything you think about this. Hope EA's staff can read it and take me into consideration. Keep fingers crossed

  • @Wishgamer34 I think you are right all the way. I love the game and I only play career mode for a long time. All your commentary was good.

Yesterday I play the final round of the players againts Spieth as a partner and please EA do some correction to the AI partner, why they always hit there drivers -10% or use 3 woods on 80% of the tee. Why they are not able to do a good chip shot or do a short putt with velocity. I only play with AI partner on the last round and sometimes it's fun but other time is very bad.

I think that there is no request in your list that are too hard to do for EA. They are all little add to the game. Please EA come to us with good update.

An idea of the next update date ?

Thank you for your kind comment, Mick. I for one play EVERY round with an AI partner and sure is fun. They make tough mistakes with those short pitches, yes, but use to drive right (I mean to the fairway) and, if you haven't played a Major yet, wait for it. I have won each tournament played in my first PGA year BUT The Masters at Augusta and I'm now playing the one after going to France.
In that Masters, the AI player was almost perfect and put so much pressure so I just finished second xD (BTW, I'm a 3 clicker on PC)

¡Ah! Two things to add here.

    1. One is that I can't like that antigolf thing of letting you go with +3 in any hole.
    2. The other is that it would be good to know where the water obstacle's limits are. I mean, they mark them with yellow wood pieces around it. I've just finished a round at Quail Hollow and missed the 18th's green to the left. The ball rolled down there but stopped yet in the rough and forced me to drop it and make a bogey... It was an awful surprise to find I couldn't play from there (not that if I had known in advance I'd have aimed to end up there, but would like to know where the things are)
