Post Shot Spin Control

Have about 50 hours invested in PGA Tour, up to level 36.  Playing on a PC platform / 3 click / arcade.  Don't think the concept of applying "spin" post shot is true golf and don't use it during play.  But from reading some other posts, it appears that some of the challenges can only be completed by using "post shot spin".  My "Spin Control" under "GamePlay" settings in "On", I know my "A" / "Q" keys control spin, believe the "Home", "End", etc, keys control spin direction.  So far, I haven't found any combination of pressing keys during flight, or after the ball lands, to have any effect.  And the "spinning ball icon" in the bottom right info panel doesn't seem to change (but I'm not sure it should).  Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated.
