Re: PGA needs more ways to get points to buy store items

there's always specs in the store i want but without points, i can't buy them. They added daily and weekly quests but daily is only like 500 and weekly is like 1,000 but not all are arcade which i like so i can't do those. i hope someone can help get this part figured out. they should even make some specs available with real money if possible. i just want to finish up updating my character. ☹️

The daily and weekly quest objectives can be completed using in any game mode using any difficulty setting. So this could be career or quick-play using Arcade mode for example. The weekly quest reward is 2000 Reward points too, although this week's may prove challenging to complete as the 'hit pin' element doesn't seem to be working properly. (I've done this three times but it hasn't marked as completed.)

Are you playing the free daily tournaments? They're only 4 holes and guarantee you a minimum of 100 reward points no matter how badly you do (so play them no matter the difficulty), and you'll get better over time I'm sure. Long term the best source of Reward Points in the game is the other tournaments but how well you are able to do in them will affect what's worth entering.

If it's specifically specs you're after note that you can earn these directly in career mode, including some legendary ones.

I for one really don't want to see a direct pay-to-win mechanic introduced where real money could be used to buy specs.

  • yes. it ised to be Arcade always but now they mix it up and i can;t use the stick to hit the ball. aas far as the other tournaments i'df have to keep buying the tickets with real money to keep doing that and i have no money for that. and challenges used to be easy but the ones i've been playing lately are hard. as far as Career tournaments, the last 3 or 4 are also hard as they up the wind and a couple of them are difficult to play course wise as well. like this one, i'm at Quail Hollow on Korn Ferry and i have been +2 while all the other players are -4. i'm on arcade with 3 click so i don;t know why this is happening. but oh well. i think in regular stroke play there should be poits there as well. you get 18,000 XP for a round plus all the other stuff like Eagles, Par Save, Sand Save, Birdies, so i'll get like 19,500 in that area so, a fraction of that could result in 2,000 or something, level 50 or not. Just an idea.

@c4a1d589907a2d55 I guess you are you using 3-click? I forget this changes the tournament situation. I certainly wasn't encouraging you to pay real money to enter tournaments and most don't let you use 3-click anyway. I'll admit this will mean you'll find it harder to earn reward points that swing stick players.
  • yeah i wish i could use stick swing but it never goes where i want it. But oh well. i guess i'll just have to fgorget it unless EA decides making Quick Play or regular 18 holes a way to get it as well.

You get points by playing career, challenges etc

there is plenty of points to earn.

I swear everyone just wants everything NOW in all forms of life and it seems this game is no different.  Gimme gimme gimme

    @blue4eva77 Exactly!

Also, the dailies and weeklies are not designed to be played every day

I have enough tickets for this week that I don’t have to play the dailies at all apart from the free 1

Well yes but that's because you'll be a 'Winner' in everything you enter 🙂. By definition of the finishing position categories, the vast majority will earn a lot less than this, and with tournaments many also run the risk of players making a net loss if they finish too low. Even on the pay-to-enter dailies people who finish in the bottom 25% make a net loss (since tickets can be bought for 1000 reward points). This is a lot of players.

Over time my guess is the average standard in each level will increase, with those finishing in the bottom 25% with any regularity stopping playing them. Then players that were previously outside this group will fall into it, and the process will repeat itself.

Personally I think the risk of losing out by entering tournaments is too high currently and will harm long-term participation.

I've just been having another look at the tournament situation and it's actually worse than I thought for most players.

'Tickets' can be bought for 1000 Reward Points each in the shop. Across all of the daily tournaments where you can win Tickets, the bottom 75% only get 1 ticket per 1000 Reward Points paid as entry fee, or worse fewer or even none. For 75% of players we can therefore view the entry costs to the weekly and seasonal tournaments to be at least 1000 Rewards Points per Ticket the entrance costs. To win more than this a player needs to finish as follows in each tournament:

    Weekly Arcade: top 35%.

    Weekly Pro: top 40%.

    Weekly Tour: top 40%.

    Weekly Sim: top 40%.

    Seasonal Arcade: top 20%.

    Seasonal Pro: top 25%.

    Seasonal Tour: top 30%.

Overall this means that for most players (comfortably >50%) they'd be better off not playing tournaments at all and just using the reward points earned from the free daily tournaments to buy specs or cosmetic items they want. Not a sustainable model IMHO.

I came to this realization as I was exploring the tournaments more - I just started playing a few weeks ago.

I've been getting better at the game, consistently place in the top 2 ranks for pro/arcade, and crush career mode on tour difficulty - will be upgrading to simulation in year 2. But the payout risk just isn't worth it for the weekly/seasonal tourney's, and because of the entry fee vs. risk, in addition to the lower player count in the more expensive tourneys, it's smarter not to play. And that sucks.

I'm sure they don't care, as there will always be whales and frustrated gamblers to drop big bucks, but creating negative monetary scenarios like that actually disincentivizes me from spending anything beyond sticker price and limits the time I spend with the game.

@Knockout8080 for Season 1 I was mostly focusing on Tournaments mode, in part to earn reward points for specs. Now I'm spending most time playing Online instead. Re. tournaments my current plan is just to try to earn enough tickets each week for the weekly Tour level tournament as a challenge to aim at, and possibly accrue enough additional tickets for one of the seasonal tournaments as well.
  • well as mentioned Daily tournaments usually reward no more then 500. Weekly relies on spending points and based on what i heard, all you  get is tickets. same thing with career. i'm getting like 775 every 4 rounds. and challenges were easy at first but lately they make it tougher. "get 3 balls on the green" hits 3, and they slide off the green to the fringe or fairway. "get the ball to at least 5 feet of the hole" ends up more like 15 or 20 every try. "make 3 putts" miss every one. so that;s no way to get points. That;s why i think every quick round should reward points too.

@c4a1d589907a2d55 Those are all easy challenges if you put your skill points in the right categories and use your spin of the ball correctly to reach the green, stay on the green, push it towards the hole after landing etc

I realize the game can be difficult for some but why should EA dumb down the game to hand out all these points to the user, cutting off other parts of their game they created ( challenges )

As said, it seems people just want instant gratification and everything at their disposal right away rather than earn it. Play the game, figure it out like the rest of us have
  • oh I've been playing the game. had it since early April. i pre-ordered it so i can play it like a couple of days early. if yu recall, EA Golf Games in the past used to make all your skills at 100% in everything. They even had cheat codes so you can obtain the maxed out clubs so you play at 200% but anyway i've been playing Career and i won a few so far. hwever Torrey Pines was tough and ddn;t won it. i ended up in 2nd with -5 while 1st place was -6. remembeer this game is supposed to make it easy or hard as you want to play it so given that, it's pretty much good reason to let us have easier ways to get the things we want. But it's cool though.

@blue4eva77 Have to disagree here the game need to cater for everyone

I’m in the top 10% in almost every tournament I enter so it’s easy for me to gain coins but I can’t imagine the grind for some people as @UltraSonic eluded to
  • I know. it should be as easy or hard as you want. if that;s how you want to play it dfine. however if you want to up the diffuculty, you can do that too. but playing the game the way i am now, it could take months before you get the points you need to get stuff. so that;s why i say it should be easier.

By far the easiest solution for them would be to reward coins alongside tickets

  • @agentputt Yeah, that would be a good idea. They could also let us redeem tickets for gold coins. If we don't need the tickets for weekly/seasonal events, we should be able to trade them in for something. Right now the game is incentivizing me to play less. If I want to save gold coins, I should be playing in 1 free daily tournament only and skipping the other 3. Unfortunately for me, the tournaments are about the only thing left to do in the game so I chose to play all 4 every day to have some fun. Hopefully they can change it up soon to make coins more obtainable. It's not good for EA to incentivize less play time in my opinion.
  • @blue4eva77 The point is, the challenges do not work. They give me the stars but no rewards. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the way you put your skill points in or how good you are. Steam starts when I start my computer, and this morning the game downloaded and installed a big patch. So hopefully the sponsor & other challenges are fixed, so you do not have to depend on the lousy rewards you now get in the tournaments, in order to make some money to spend in the store. I'll report back later. lol

I agree with ultrasonic77. Unless you rank in the top 25% you either get your money back or take a loss. Same with tickets you enter weekly or seasonal tournies. For example you do a daily for 2000, I normally get elite ranked or ranked. Elite ranked you would get 4 tickets, ranked 2 tickets. You put those into weekly or seasonal events and I win the same amount as I put into it. I know some people will say get better which I have a lot but I’ve now reached a good level and  struggling to improve further. I get good scores (average -15 on 18 holes) but it’s always the same people on the leaderboards are getting -23 on 18 holes! Whenever I look at the leaderboard it’s always the same people smashing it. What’s the incentive for average-good players like myself. Unless you’re a demon at the game tournaments are pointless and a waste of time which is disappointing. On 2k pga you can join online societies and bet your currency, it’s a pity online on this game is absolutely pointless.

Their are a lot of issues with the game. They need to get the game up to a level where it is challenging and enjoyable for all types of players, in order to grow the community. This would also mean creating some sort of community based feature in the game, like their previous Country Clubs. And an expansion of their multiplayer features that allow players to lockdown their own features, rather than just the presets given.

But maybe most important to keep the current community playing... to have handicap tournaments along with the current open ones. Where lower ranked players are competing with those at their own skill levels.

  • Elf they are some good suggestions you make. When I wrote my message I only thought there was one page on this topic but can now see there’s a lot of other people with the same problem. For example i sweated for an hour on the daily all 18 pro tourney 4000 coins at banff. Got a -17 which I was really happy with tied 87 in the world but only got ranked as it was set at 25-75% and got 4 tickets. I could have literally just bought the 4 tickets and saved myself an hour. The highest score was -24! That’s every  birdie and eagle obtained which is just crazy. Surpirse surpirse all the same people top of the leaderboard. They need to do something as it’s really putting me off doing them anymore now. I’m half way through my first season on career, done a lot of the challenges and can’t see myself playing much longer when I’ve completed my career. 2k pga is free on PlayStation next month, some of my mates don’t have a ps5 yet so we can’t play with them so we will be jumping on 2k with them. If it’s good and more rewarding can’t see myself coming back much at all which is shame.

@RJellis11 2K23 is a different experience... I think it gives you more realistic gameplay depending on the settings you play at. The one good thing is that you can create a room for multiplayer that lets you set almost every feature in the game.

The character swing speed is far too fast in my opinion, and you may not like the tempo parameter that is part of the swing. But once you find your rythym, I think you will agree that the swing is fair... that the results will emulate the input of the swing.

The graphics are serviceable and you will have seemingly endless courses the select from. I had been playing the since the original release, I believe in 2014. And I could have literally played a different course every night across all the games in the series over the years.

If you can get through the learning curve, I think you and your friends will appreciate the game. But note at the highest difficulty the game is not easy.
  • @ELF014 Funnily enough I played a lot of 2k21 which I enjoyed a lot. Got used to the tempo parameter pretty quickly but found it to be quite unforgiving at times. The main gripe I had with the game was multiplayer. There would quite often be more than four of us wanting to play and it was maximum four players so we would have to play online society which was good but took away from the experience of playing live with friends. I think I read before that it’s the same for 2k23 unfortunately. Playing fan made courses was pretty cool. Looking forward to trying it out.

I wasn't aware that you had played 2K21. In that case I think the biggest thing you have to deal with are the faster greens.

Unfortunately the limit is still 4-somes.

@RJellis11I would not waste VC on daily tournaments that give tickets since the rewards can be nerfed and time is wasted. I would rather buy the tickets with points from Xbox store and use them for weekly and seasonal tournaments. I still see the same guys on the leaderboard with -23 to -24. Getting elite to world rank will still give coins without wasting them on tickets. The only issue once you obtain coins is purchasing specs you want because it can take weeks or months when they become available in the store. 2k21 or 2k23 does not have this issue.
