Well said. This is one that needs to be fixed ASAP. The game is a pure fail for this part because there are no warnings or fail safe mechanisms to mention the tournament leaderboard scores and rewards system are broken.
By the way, I lost track what update we are in. If I remember, I might give a nickname for the update when this bug occurred.

But to answer your question, the game just doesn't play realistically... the greens are way too slow. The ball physics don't feel right at times. I have hit wedges into greens that slope into me that will roll out... and on the very next hole on a green sloping away from me have the ball spin back uphill 30 feet.
Rough has no effect in reducing distance, or reducing spin on the ball. Flop shots are too easy to hit, and stick like glue from every type of lie or green slope. The lack of spin on mid irons is also odd an odd combination for how easy it is to stick shorter clubs. The fall off seems quite extreme.
Don't get me wrong for those looking for a fun, casual outing I think this fits that itch. But for someone looking for a more realistic experience this isn't it.
My issue with EA is that this was packaged and advertised as a full on simulation experince using Shot Link... multiple shot types so you can play like a pro. To be honest I don't thing I ever used more than 6 shot types because scoring in this game was so easy.
If EA had packaged this as just a GOLF GAME, I wouldn't have as much of an issue. I would put it in the category of Mario Golf and Hot Shots Golf. But when they promoted it the way they did... I expected more realism.
What happened to Electronic Arts original slogan... "If it's in the game... it's in the game!"
First off, I definitely hope there is not a 2025. I prefer a live service and prefer this game be updated. I'll pay for pro passes if the game continues to evolve. We need to go back to games being supported for years by developers instead of whipping out a new version with minimal updates every year. That model is a giant rip off. I played DOD, TF, & CS then CS Source for the cost of Half-Life for like 12 years before ponying up for CS:GO, and played that until migration to CS 2 last year (for free!). I want support like that for my purchases!
Second, I do agree with many of the items you specifically mention, but not all:
Agree:

These seem to vary by course with Augusta being the fastest. There are a few courses (like the Wetlands, where I would agree seem to slow); however, most seem reasonable to me.

I don't really experience this since the very early iterations of the game.

I also don't experience this (or maybe we define mid-iron differently? I consider them 7-9 based on sets I play personally.) I would imagine this may be due to you not allocating skill points. All irons through 6i seem to have a reasonable progression for spin to me. I would say at the 5 there is a bit of a leap that could be tightened up a bit, but it isn't anything that can't be accounted for.
Overall, the game is far too easy. I don't play SIM because I don't like 2-dimensional putting, but I have no trouble shooting 18+ under par on Tour or Tour+ settings (Tour + = I remove the zoom and shot shaping in career). I also allocate all my skill points, though I have removed them from putting in order to give some challenge.
I think the progression in the game is a big cause of a lot of a lot of complaints. The "RNG" is all over the place until you allocate skill points and get legend blueprints, but once those are in, it all comes down to who sneezes during a backswing and finally misses a birdie or par 5 eagle.
At end game (skills allocated and legend blueprints) there are definitely tweaks that need to be made. The #1 really being that RNG for distance and spin needs to be cranked up considerably for all shots out of the rough and even more so out of the heavy rough. #2 being the flop shot needs to be more like the blast shot (has rollout) when it comes out of the rough. #3 Driver RNG needs increased for Power drives. Right now, this game is bomb it 380, hit 60 wedge from fairway 90% of the time.

I think we are pretty much on the same page. My prime example for green speeds in this game is the 16th hole at Augusta with the day 4 pin location. Any ball that is feeding down to the hole from the upper right tier shouldn't stop on the slope. It has happened a copious amount of times to me. Plus the ball when putting doesn't seem to stop naturally to me. It lacks some rollout... it stops a little to abruptly.
And I agree with you about the irons... 7-9 I can live with... but somewhere around the 5-6 irons things fall off the table. Some adjustment is needed. They apparently have this off trackman data you would think it would be better.
And your last statement sort of validates my post. You have no trouble shooting -18 on Tour... Playing on FULL SIM, which is EA's SIM settings plus whatever else I can reasonably disable, and no skill or specs I was still averaging -5 on rounds.
This game is great for the more casual player but lacks gameplay for the more serious golfer. But maybe that is the market they are trying to capture. I was just hoping they were looking for a bigger marketshare.

@Mickstudio1308 The man is right, it is closer to an arcade game like Mario Golf or Everybody’s Golf than a simulation golf game. Not even 2K really nails it with their latest effort. What this generation of consoles can do is much more than what EA have done. Apart from gameplay issues, I’ll just list some things that can be done that would put this in a much better place in terms of content and customisation
Club loft and lie angle adjustments
Shaft flex and weight
Driving range with GC Quad type features showing launch angles, directions, spin rates, face to path angles etc
Being able to open up club faces to adjust dynamic lofts for flop shots and other high lofted shots
Adjusting one’s own stance to the ball like opening it up for a fade
Theres many more too but of course, these are optional and those that don’t understand the intricacies of golf don’t have to learn them, but for those that do understand them like myself and ELF, give us that level of control and difficulty
I’d hate to say it, but probably Everybody’s Golf VR is closer to golf simulation that EA’s game as it seemed to understand golf better in terms of the actual swing even if I couldn’t execute a flop shot on it like I can in real life 😆

I agree career mode is too easy, but why not play multiplayer if you want a challenge? Shooting a few strokes under par on sim with no attributes is easy. Shooting -15 on sim every single round isn't, even fully leveled up, but that's what the best players are doing.

Golf+ on quest 3 is great too.

I have no interest in birdiefests... I want to grinding out pars, when it is warranted on a difficult hole. If I miss a shot I want to work out how to make a par from where I am.
It isn't about shooting -15, it is about translating a realistic experience from the gold course into this virtual environment.
I play ridiculously difficult settings in 2K and seldom do I break par anymore... but I enjoy it more than when I was consistently shooting 5 to 10 under. And those that I play with agree, score is just a measuring tool.
But when things are too easy there is little to seperate us.
I don't think the best players are playing this game.
