Freezing, then crashing

Ever since the food fight event started, my iPad with iOS 17 has been constantly crashing. I have tried reinstalling, and it had not fixed this issue. I have also made sure I had the latest software update. Here are all the ways in which I've experienced crashing:

When I try to access thymed events, my iPad freezes up when I try to click those icons. After a few seconds, the game crashes and I return to the home screen. 

When I try to play penny's pursuit, I can view the levels. However, when I try to play a level, PvZ2 crashes when I get to pick Penny's Perks.

When I try to play arena, I was able to play all the way through, but I experienced crashes at the reward streak screen.

When I try to buy daily seeds sold from the almanac, the game also crashes.

The only things I can do without crashing is the pinata party, zen garden, and adventure mode. It's really frustrating that I'm locked out of getting headbutter lettuce seeds (penny's pursuit this week) and solar sage seeds (food fight thymed event). At this moment, PvZ2 is literally unplayable. I have played the game since August 2013 and I've never seen the game as unstable as it is right now.
