Game crashes or softlocks

For me, the game would load fine, and work perfectlt until you click the 'Play' button on the title. Either the game crashes and closes without saying anything, or shows me the default loading screen background without the Marigold, softlocking the game. The only way to avoid this, is to play offline, to which the game works fine.
