iPhone 12 Pro Max with software 14.4.
This is an iOS issue and the PvZ2 app itself can't really do anything about that. You will probably find more info using google.
Basically, what you have to do is turn down the media volume with the volume buttons. The silent switch doesn't have any effect on ads.
Still does not work with software update 14.5. And no, I don’t believe it’s the phone. On all other apps the ads are also muted with the silent switch.
@bigrob4827 On iOS turning down the volume is different from the mute/silent mode. Thus, sneaky ad developers will find a way to bypass the silent mode. The PvZ2 app itself uses several third party external ad providers so EA/Popcap doesn't really have control over the content. You can just blame them for using such sneaky ad providers.
Here is a statement from a community manager:
Hiya, that's to do with the ads themselves and their external providers, not us as game developers. We don't have anything to do with video ads themselves as they all come from 3rd party external providers to which there are several. We just enable them to be shown in-game, but we have no control over their content or characteristics.
If you can recall any specific ads that disobey the local device sound permissions please let me know so I can work with our AdTech team to work backwards to find out from which provider the ad came from.
Additionally, I'd suggest you turn your volume all the way down (different from mute/silent mode). I've had to do that before on other games, and I'm on iOS too.
