Any Update on Child Accounts!?

It seems most tickets in this forum are from a couple years ago. Is there any progress on the child accounts for games like Plants vs. Zombies? This game is rated Everyone 10+, yet you have to be 13 to play? Unless you browse through this forum beforehand, there is no warning that the game my son loves so much on his tablet is inoperable on PS4 for him!

I have tried everything, including creating an Origins account using the windows app with the same email as his PS4 (sub) account. This alone is ridiculous. The article claims its to avoid internet privacy laws, but Google lets him login to his email online. Playstation lets him login online. I mean seriously, what standards are you not meeting that kids can't login online and make this whole process easier? The Origins app does not let him login via PSN, and the PS game won't even start, no login form, nothing. Just an age error.

Am I another EA victim wasting their money on an outdated privacy system!?

I don't quite understand. You have a problem with your child's account. Do you want your child to use plants vs zombies on other platforms or to play newer versions of this game? If a son has some games on platforms, e.g. PS4, if he wants to play a game on a PC via Origin, he should have created a new account on this platform and buy the game that his son wants on Origin. It is not possible to buy a game for consoles and transfer it to PC / Origin.
  • This is a console problem, evidently for years based on numerous other topics here. I don't want my son playing on the PC, that's why I bought the console edition. Even though he does not want to play online or access any online features, the game will not load without an account. EA accounts are prohibited for minors under 13. The supposed workaround is to use an Origins account, but PvZ refuses to let me login because he's under 13. I don't even get a chance to try his origins login. I tried suspending all parental controls and still no luck.

This is very inconsistent with most games today. No account simply means there are features you do not get, but you can still access the core of the game. I don't understand what's so hard about this that EA can't adopt the same reasoning in their games.

@iluminatethesky I don't want/need him to play online or have anything in the list provided in that article. I just want him to play the regular game with no online access. No articles I have found actually state why you MUST have an EA account to play any of their games. If EA is so concerned with privacy, they shouldn't require us to give up information in order to access a game, especially without good reason.

I understand where you're coming from.

This has always been the case though, in order to access any EA games.

You are able to set up his own account, and he will be able to play the game Offline, until you give him permissions to play Online/Multiplayer.

  • It's a bit awful I need to necro this.... After just getting a PS4 and Plants vs Zombies I ran into this exact issue. Seems the game reads the PS account birthday and refuses to give you a chance to enter the child's origin account info.  You let me create an kids origin account but say it's too young to play when the game is launched.  How is this even a thing? And considering the necro been a thing for a long time.  I have an 8 yo that can play the 10+ game, and then another that is nearly 7 but says he is too young.  I do agree that he is too young for online interaction but aren't parents responsible for parenting what thier kids can and cannot do?  And how old does he actually have to be before you let him login? Somewhere between 6 and 8 year old... How long do I have to tell him to wait till he can play? A few weeks or a year and a few weeks? lol
