Attempt No. 2 - PvZ:BfN not working

Hey, I'm gonna try again with Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville from my previous thread.

I have had a fresh reinstall of windows done in a pc repair shop. Since then, I have installed PvZ:BfN and it didn't start; it had the same problem as before. I have upgraded to Windows 11, still an unsuccessful start, but an 0xc0000005 error (Application was unable to start correctly) showed up.

I have then done the following.

Cleared the origin cache,
Ran system file checker, no violations detected
Uninstalled/reinstalled easy anti-cheat,
Repaired the game,
Ran Origin and the game both in Administrator,

I mentioned in my previous thread that my wife was having the same problem with this game, but after an Origin update, is now working properly.

I've attached my dx for you

  • @EA_Cath Hey Cath, I've checked that my graphics drivers are up to date, but running the clean boot didn't successfully run the game.

The computer behavior changed though; the error I mentioned earlier didn't show up.
Nothing further happened after Easy Anti-Cheat loaded, so I checked Task Manager and found PvZ:BfN listed there with very little resource activity.
I ended the task and retried running the game and the error reappeared.

Not sure if any of this helps, but this is what's happened so far.

@Dazza67916001 Thank you for the info! So the game was technically able to launch during safe boot but not completely?

Here are a few additional steps you can try:

    - For other players, this issue was linked to their antivirus and/or firewall program: make sure that the game is allowed on both public and private networks in your firewall settings, and add the game to the antivirus exceptions list
    - It could also be worth trying to download EA App and launch the game through there instead of Origin
    - This player here found a workaround which could also work for you (the last paragraph): https://answers.ea.com/t5/It-Takes-Two/EALink-exe-Unable-to-Start-Error-Code-0x0000005/td-p/10595154

Good luck, let me know how that works out!
  • @EA_Cath Ok, I've added the game to antivirus exceptions and allowed it through the firewall on private and public networks. I downloading the EA app, and tried renaming the origin folder to Origin OLD and installed origin again. I notice that Origin installed very quickly at that time, did I need to change the name of the original folder to something completely different?

Sadly none has worked with launching the game.
