Boss discussion: Gnomus the gnome king

Gnomus the gnome king

The main boss of infinity time and the ruler of all gnomes.

He is a fatish gnome wearing goggles and a crown with a large white beard. He rides a large gnomish contraption what floats above the ground shaped like a mushroom powered by a spin wheel with a strange fluid much like the multiplayer portal in(love that detail btw).

He fires a rainbow beam attack, fires blue homing energy balls that deal immense damage, can destabalize time, and even hurt you be running into you.

An impostor of him appears every 5 waves in infinity time to try and stop the junkosaurus or mecha cat. He sends a  Blue, Green, Yellow, and finally Red impostor alingside legions of gnomes and the opposing faction.

He also appears to guide the player through the trials of gnomus and as the rainbow guardian to unlock the final chamber.

Has a banger of a theme.

Has a total of 1200 health.

I really like the gnomes in general. They open up so many possibilities for the series and they are an interesting faction that attacks both sides.

He also can be a challenging boss by himself if he is ignored as his homing attack and time destabilization can be deadly.

Wish there was more of these guys in general.

He has a scrapped remix of his theme is Bfn so he was most likely going to appear in future updates but was canned due to the games failure.

I also feel that Bfn gnomes were really lacking aside from the three small boss fights they got. It's a shame as something like infinity time or trials of gnomus was something that could be expanded but instead Bfn cut a lot of previous characters or content.

He may be a reference to King Globus from Hammer Heads, another game developed by PopCap. Both share the traits of being gnomes, as well as kings that the player must defeat, and they also function as the most powerful enemy in their particular modes. They also have similar names, both starting with a G, have an o for the third letter, and end in -us.

  • He is not an easy foe to be sure; whether in Infinity Time or as the final boss for the gnomiverse codes, but not so hard that I found him frustrating. In general, I feel GW2 hit the difficulty curve very well.

I do like all 3 gnome knight fights in BfN, but especially Sir Biff as the moving arena is a great spectacle and his music is great.

His homing orbs really hurt, and I try to use the terrain to have them crash into the walls instead of me to avoid taking so much damage.

The gnome music is largely excellent, but to be fair PvZ's music has always been some of the best game music ever.

I'd love to see more done with the king and the gnomes in general in a new game. I had posted about my idea for a kind of 'end game' gnomiverse region where the plants and zombies would fight the AI and even each other, although the gnomes would be a huge threat. Infinity time is decent if repetitive and the gnomiverse added in the Trials of Gnomus DLC are appreciated, but they could have done so much more! If BfN had done better I could easily see some version of it as 1 or more free roam zones for both sides to explore, quest, and battle in.

@Iron_Guard8Yeah gw2 is in the right area. Gw1 health mechanics made a lot of crazy ops runs a slog and bfn is way too easy.

I remember that post and im 100% behind the idea of doing more with them.
