Butter Beacon doesn't detect enemies. Bug?

Product: Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville

In what game mode did the bug occur? Everywhere
Summarize your bug Hey! I like to play kernel corn but somehow his first ability "butter beacon" doesn't reveal enemies to me. I watched youtube videos and you could clearly see enemies outlines when they are affected by the ability. But somehow that doesn't work for me. I repaired the game, reset my graphics options, etc. Nothing worked. Is this a common bug or can I fix it? Appreciate help!
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Well just use butter beacon as an ability against an enemy.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)

I used butter beacon against enemies on this map as you can see in the screenshot. There's two enemies behind the bus (you can see the gun of the foot soldier a bit if you look to the right of the TV zombie between the zombie and the bus). But the aura of those enemies behind the bus doesn't show.

Hey, I just tested on my end and it seemed to work fine. Can I check what upgrades you have equipped? If you remove your upgrades do the outlines show as normal?

    Thanks.

  • Thanks for your reply!

I used shogun guard and fearless. I took the upgrades off and I still can't see outlines of enemies, making this ability basically useless ☹️ Here's a better resolution of the picture I uploaded with the bus https://imgur.com/a/MtKiSKm

I hope you can help me!

Thanks, I did have to squint a bit for the first one. Just to check, if you look at the ones behind the bus, do they have the "buttered" effect over them?

If you try buttering some and going behind a solid piece of geometry (like that rock to the left) do they show up? I just want to get a good idea if they never show up as buttered, which could be a local issue, or if it's just in certain spots, which is something to flag to be fixed in the game.

  • Yeah they are definitely "buttered". I tested it a lot of times, even directly hitting them with the ability and it never showed any aura. It doesn't work with any mobs in PvE area and in PvP it doesn't work either. If other corn teammates use their ability I can't see auras either. Funny thing is, when I butter an enemy I get the score event "assist" for showing their auras to teammates but I can't see them.

I just reinstalled the game entirely but I still have the same issue. I don't know why that is the case :/

I appreciate your effort in helping me! I hope we can solve this soon!

Thanks for the extra info. It's a bit of a long shot but I've seen other games have odd behaviour due to some issues with settings. Can you try wiping your local settings and see if this has any impact?

You'll find the files at C:Users\yourusername\Documents\PVZ Battle for Neighborville\Settings, if you delete them all they'll be recreated from a template when you start the game again.

  • Hello!

Thanks, I did that but the issue is still there. Could it have something to do with my graphics card? Got a GTX 680, every other game runes smoothly and fine though, without visual bugs.

It really shouldn't, that's a fairly common card and I haven't heard of it happening before. Driver issues usually manifest as instability/crashing, but you could try a clean reinstall of the drivers for that GPU?
