Fix the game and please stop adding to the problems

Coming from a 40 year old gamer who has been gaming consistently since the 80’s, I’ve never played a more frustrating game in my life. At first I thought my children were just being typical whining kids. Then I played the game and took on the monumental task of trying t to fix it. Yes, I write scripts and macros and have since before most that play this game were alive. It is a hobby, something I do for fun but never talk about or share as it would ruin a game. When BFN first came out a lot of the mechanics were messed up, scripting made the game playable. This is the reason I make the comments I do about people who cheat while playing BFN. Once you learn to strict and work within the mechanics of the game you learn/see what is possible and what is not. (Without using a cheater device) So for those that think I may just be someone who rages on message boards because he isn’t good at the game, you would be incorrect. I can careless about being killed in a game, I actually play overly aggressive because I don’t care when I die and instead of hiding and protecting personal stats, my teams wins games.

With that said, I have no clue what has happened to this game. The mechanics of the game change from character to character m, as if different developers where designing the game from different ends hoping to meet in the middle. One character that worked just mere weeks ago is simply unplayable in its current state. The constant changing of parameters and gameplay seemingly from week to week has absolutely destroyed what little consistency this game had. Now with the addition on more animations and pointless visuals everywhere, the lag has made hit detection even worse than it was. Now most characters I find myself needing to hit my R1 and L1 (I play on PS4) multiple times just to use an ability. When they do function have the time I get to watch all the pretty animations with absolutely no damage being done to my enemies. (Playing OP’s NPC’s) Primary fire on characters doesnt record roughly 1 out of 3 direct hits, it gets even better when you can’t use your primary at all! I have watched my character get stuck reloading, reloading for no reason, and continuously reloading over and over without any buttons being hit.

Now back to the reason I mentioned scripting earlier, when scripts can’t make up for the programming you know there is a serious issue. Programming issues on top of the server issues mixed with the small player base... not good.

My 9 year old twins have all but competent stopped playing this game. I check out thing’s occasionally but don’t stay on longer 30-40 minutes before frustration takes over. I could go on for days about what is wrong with the game, but anyone who plays it already knows all of that. I’m strictly posting this hoping that someone within the development department steps up. Stop adding more broken features and characters and focus those resources on fixing what you already have. Once you have a game that can sustain organic player growth with giving away free stuff, then you can continue to add features. Currently adding another Rose character (Wizard) that generates copious amounts of lag with ridiculously over the top animations, only compounds the problems. There is obviously a lack of resources needed for these types of characters in multiplayer online games, so either reformat or reduce the animations. Fix the abilities, particular abilities don’t even work in some characters. Why have it if it doesn’t work? Again, wasting resources that are desperately needed elsewhere. The games/maps were the best part of the game until everyone figured out the incomplete areas, under the floor in Preserve Pastures for example. Who is it one can shoot through an object and hit an enemy without a line of sight? It’s not like they are shooting over or around it, through it. These little areas of the game become beacons for abuse and ruin the play for everyone. Team swapping has literally killed pvp in this game with the exception of battle arena. Battle arena could be nice, unfortunately when playing against other people I like to stay within my power range. I am a cleric, healer, monk type that loves to get in and mix it up. Sure I can play any character in the game, but I am a healer and prefer healers. So when I play Battle Arena against live opponents, I’m stuck playing some of the characters I rather not play. (Typically the characters that work well with auto fire, Chomper) I do not want to play the cheap/cheating characters as it takes away the fun of competitive competition. Alas, the reason I can’t give Battle Arena the thumbs up. The individual characters in this game are so inconsistent that people are forced to play specific characters when playing competitively.

There is some good in the game, don’t get me wrong. Unfortunately, most will never see it or stick around to experience it with the lack of consistency currently in the game. What is left of a player base typically uses auto and aim assist to combat the shortcomings in the game. This tends to build animosity amongst players and frustrations boil over into a toxic environment. This is a chance to stop it, fix what you have and slowly implement characters once all of the current class is playable.

Stay safe and healthy out there everyone. 🤙

edited: Sweet Christ, autocorrect sucks! I can’t even read this trash because of the errors it fixed(?) for me. Wow, sorry for the terrible grammar and being entirely to lazy to go back and correct the errors in my post for a game I hardly play.. Just know the gist of my post was hopefully to get someone to fix it before it goes the way of so many other dead EA games.

  • @GraveledStoopidA-freaking-men this game is broken and still has problems that should have been stomped out before release, this is a game nearly half a year after release and it isn't getting much better, bugs and glitches plague players of all systems and nations, there are still people who are acting like this game is all fine and dandy IT IS NOT! I have seen people become invisible, fall through the maps, and even have games where a team jumps from 0 to 50 points after one vanquish. I loved gw2 to death but this is just a nightmare of game development and I'm shocked anyone could have greenlighted this for release.

  • @stukapooka Falling through maps, shooting while invisible, rate of fire changing, the list goes on.. I was happy to help at first, when I actually thought that they wanted and needed help. Working like I did and and delivering valuable info, only to see it brushed off and ignored. This was a work in progress, that stopped when they released new characters, maps, and abilities without bothering to fix what they already had. That type of response told me everything I needed to know, this is a money grab. Now with the economy tanking, parents won’t be so willing to toss money at a game for the kids. Games will have to be worth it, as people won’t want to miss their chance to get a good game. This is what made EA great in the early 90’s. Now it’s a smash and grab, toss as much on the market as possible and see what sticks. Games like this won’t survive when parents don’t pony up on in game transactions. (I say this as a player and parent of 9 year old twins)

Hopefully something good comes of this down turn and EA gets their collective acts together.

@GraveledStoopidIm probably gonna stop playing completely once doom eternal comes out, a game where its devs seem like they really wanna put the player enjoyment first and create a fun game in general, also ops and custom matches are coming to the game months after release you know, popcap, why not just add them for the base game rather that stretch out content so you hope the game stays alive when people loved them in gw2.

  • I would forgive this game so much more if the gameplay was better, and I still keep coming back to this game.

The gameplay is so imbalanced right now, and while I haven't experienced the same problems with reloading, Wizard, or other basic stuff, I too have a lot to say about just the gameplay in general. (I dont think Wizard causes as many problems as many other characters)

Whenever i get frustrated at this game, i also tend to realize just how dumb and rage inducing the gameplay can be.

Games devolve into sniper battles because there is still no Fall-off damage. (Without Fall-off damage Healers and arguably even shields will never be balanced) E slides and Rose's run away for free with their Invincibility tools. Wizard invincibility is also too on-demand. E slide and Rose can regain Health with upgrades while being Invinicble. Z-mech and Barrel are cheesy and terrible. Everyone has the same walking speed, even low HP classes like Rose and Healers. Overhealth is permanent. Acorn still has hardened. Space station is still too strong. Blue Blazes is annoying. Scientist still warps instantly. The game punishes you for taking damage while sprinting or jumping. Brawlers are still bad and other classes do their job better. You can b hop while sprinting like its Minecraft. This game is no where near competitive, so even 4v4 Battle Arena can get ruined. 8v8 in Team Vanquish/ Vanquish confirmed is dreadful. Those gamemodes have no real objective and are not made for 8v8 so I always try to avoid those in daily modes.

I really hate a lot of the movement mechanics and the fact there is still no Fall-off damage. A lot of these issues have been here since the early months of Founders and weren't fixed. Other things like Arcane Enigma, Warp, and the shooting in general were already fixed and worked better in the GW games.

I really want this game to be a step forward from the GW games, and it can be if Popcap fixes these problems faster. I dont agree that they should put off content like Wizard for balancing as that could also have negative effects on the game and community.

At this point I'm just waiting for a March Update that'll throw in a bunch of balance changes, add Fall-off damage, and get rid of the terrible movement; and I really hope Popcap delivers as that would be a huge boost in morale. All I want to do is enjoy the gameplay with a lot less cheesy garbage. I'm also excited for Berry Brigade.

  • @Pheesley Movement in this game and is where I believe a lot of the issues start. All the characters have crazy animations, some taking longer than others. The animations in this game (visuals to make the game more pleasing but don’t add to the gameplay) supersede everything else. I don’t care how pretty some thing I do is, if it doesn’t work when I need it to. I loathe the running in this game, even more so because the landscape isn’t complete and there are so many random areas that a character gets stuck on or glitches out. Primary firing should always take precedent over movement, a character shouldn’t stop firing because you moved. Your character shouldn’t be able to move in a why to stop its firing while using its primary. (What I am trying to say is, Citron is a close range character and half the time I try to close the gap, something goes haywire and I end up running instead of firing, or the animation starts like I’m going to run and the entire screen moves and adjusts because of it but my character never actually goes into a sprint.) the camera movement because of the run option in this game is horrendous. Ever find yourself in a Battle next to an object only to have your camera angles not work because there is a wall behind you? Yea. It doesn’t make sense but it most definitely happens..

Maybe devs should quarantine BFN and not release it until it shows no signs of being a sick game. Right now it appears to be on life support.

@GraveledStoopid I always thought shooting canceling sprinting was a thing I had to get used to. It was always this way in other shooting games with sprinting.
But yeah, it feels like I accidentally create this scenario for me where the movement freaks out because I'm switching between sprinting and firing. Can't say that I've gotten stuck on random terrain though.
And the camera always felt a little off to me. I dont think field of vision should change at all when sprinting, it makes transitioning to sprinting feel slow and awkward. I also think a lot of the start up sprinting animations are too long, like Sunflower's or Deadbeard's, which also makes the sprinting look and feel awkward. Compare that to like Foot soldier or Scientist; their transition is so much quicker and smoother. Sometimes the animation glitches out and your'e sprinting with a reload animation or a charge shot animation (it happens quite a bit when I play wizard).
Sometimes, playing characters like Snapdragon or Nightcap take up a third of the camera space, and i can't see who I'm shooting at because my own character is blocking my view! But this does seem to happen most when I have an object behind me.
  • Even back in Founders we brought up the issues the game has had. While it is better than it was, it still needs fundamental improvements if it's going to succeed long term. I posted before that the game should have been in alpha/beta for many more months before the founders, much less the general release. I do enjoy the game even with it's problems, but for a game that has to have an active community to survive, it has to have some major repair work to core functions even before addressing the balance issues that persist and making a less intrusive business model.

I tend to be positive about the game on my posting but there's no question that it has real issues and I'd hate to see my favorite mutliplayer shooter series go down in flames. We know things are hectic right now with the current global situation so that has to be taken into account but we need some serious engine/functionality improvements to make the game a lot more enjoyable and to retain/grow the playerbase.
