You're not supposed to camp inside the building. If you're letting the zombies get behind the building to shoot in windows, then you're doing it wrong.
The one time I actually took control of the huge cannons... maybe 25% of the zombies got through. That's a lot more manageable than letting them all roam freely and letting them get a hit or two on the megaflower.
