My thoughts on the current state of the game

I've been playing for something like 1-2 months. One of the first rank game I've played someone played an apparition and pretty much destroyed my noob deck that's where I understood that was the way to go. I was nearly right from the get go and it does turn out that brainy or the fact of playing after the plants is incredibly strong in general and one of the best strategy.

Due to the structure of the game the plants are always pretty much the aggressor. If zombies have a 4/1 and plants have a 4/1, by default the plant is the one that decide if they will trade or if they will do dmg. This make a 4/1 for zombies very bad while still being something you can play as a plant.

So since plants are the agressor this make the zombies into the defacto control game. How can you play control if you have to play first? You can't. This mean that you have to heavily play tricks and play last that way.

Once I was about rank 20 I was convinced that the best decks in the game would be professor brainstorm, with maybe immorticia 2nd due to the fact that they basically have all the good and relevant cards + pretty good powers. I was facing alot of brainstorm and having my occasional lost to those decks.

At this point I got captain combustible and kinda like the brainstorm/immorticia heroes I predicted he would be one of the best plant due to having the factions with basically all the good cards. At first I felt that his ultimate power (+4 atk) was a bit weak since it wasn't a removal but then I discovered re-peat moss and how good it was with that card and this deck was catapulted to top tier, pretty much in a category of it's own.

I could expand on why the captain is that good but basically it's a rush deck that can combo you out. If you've played any hearthstone or any card game you know that combo decks are always dangerous and even more so if they are also zooish/rush. Since you never face a plant hero there are no mirrors, the zombie is forced to try to catch up or play control and they usually lose. Prof brainstorm would in theory have a decent way of beating captain, but giga offer one of the best counter to trick heavy deck with the black-eyed pea which can win a game vs brainstorm pretty much by itself unless he has an immediate answer.

After captain I think the best decks are brainstorm and immorticia, not too sure in which order. Immorticia is less vulnerable to black-eyed peas maybe so depending on how much people have caught on and how many they play, etc.

My final thoughts for this already too long first post is that I feel the game is not balanced very well. The 10 classes are not balanced, the heroes are not balanced due to that and some of the cards are specifically not balanced. If this game has any chance of living a long life it probably need nerfs, new cards soon or basically some tweaking in general I feel.

If this discussion gets going maybe we can go into specific classes or cards and why they are good or suck.

Thanks!

I've been playing for almost 6 months now. I have every character unlocked and almost every card in the game(just a couple more legendarys to go).

I have 3 or more decks for each character. So, that's 60+ decks I have to choose from.

I know where you're coming from. I had similar thoughts on balance earlier into the game as well.

After building and trying out every strategy and deck style I can think of, I find the game to be surprisingly well balanced.

That means I can pick just about any deck of mine, and win most games. The trick is to pick a strategy that fits the deck you are playing and stick to it.

There are a few over-powered cards for sure. And at least a couple broken cards(I feel like I'm cheating every time I use a Sergeant Strongberry deck). But ultimately, every deck can be beaten.

Lately I have been putting together zombie decks with about 20 Gargantuars(or similar sized zombies) in each. It's a challenge making the game last long enough to put them to use. But it's a lot of fun, and I've been having a lot of success with them too.

Just keep playing and trying different things. You'll get better and better.

    Thank you for your answer.

I see what you are trying to say and I will not say that I have nothing left to learn in this game but some of the power differences are imo obvious and should be adressed.

The seargent goodberry infinite loop is another story, it's not 'strong' or 'unbalanced' it is 'broken' meaning that it should be fixed and probably should not be used as an argument to balance the game.

One type of decks I haven't tried and I suspsect not many people have tried are the multiple legendaries decks since most people cannot make those decks. Maybe you can win with factions that are otherwise poor in the normal cards departement.

But note that due to the ranking system (the wide range of opponents you can face) once you are a decently good player you will win most of your games. I probably have a 85/90%+ win rate overall, but I lose alot less if I use captain combustible or brainstorm/immorticia for example.

My goal was mainly to open a discussion on the power cards/classes and the underpowered classes and see if there are plans to improve the overall balance. No games can be 100% balanced but heroes could certainly go with a wider range of tier 1 decks imo.

I think zombie legendaries are very lack luster. Ive dropped around 300 USD on a z-mech deck and the legendaries are silly compared to the plant counter parts. They have cards that can single handedly win the game from an otherwise certain defeat. I get a barrel that damages my own zombies, a gargantuan who only has 6 damage and matches my HP and if I'm deep into a game and low on health it's worthless. Meanwhile wall nut get a 6/10 armored legendary that absorbs all damage that would be going to the plant hero. So I have to do 20 damage to his legendary before I can attack him? Are you kidding me?? That's broken. There are more examples but long story short buff zombie legends or nerf plant legends or big spenders won't play long if they prefer zombie as I do.

Technically, you only need to do 11 damage if you can do it in one hit. But yes, that is one of a few overpowered cards in the game.

In general I actually prefer Zombie decks and zombie legendarys.

I can see that there are some uneven decks and cards on both sides.  I think the key is to stack your deck to consider all scenarios.  I do believe that plant legendary cards are much stronger but this is why I always try to stack my decks with instant kills or high damage cards too.

No matter who I play, I can always use those tricks.

I do agree that Captain is over-powered.  I use him not for repeat moss but for black eyed pea.  Having the Kaboom and Mega Grow class, he is basically almost perfect to play.
