Nerf the Imp Punt
I have been vanquished too many times due to the Imp Punt. I have been killed by Imp Punt when I am in hyper and about 3/4 of the way to the high point in my jump. But when I use my Chili bean bomb, the same thing doesn't happen.
I am an avid Peashooter user and I compare the Imp Punt to the Chili Bean bomb. From what I have seen and experienced, the Imp Punt has a much larger area of effect then the Chili Bean Bomb. I'm not saying that a nerf is necessary, I'm asking more for reassurance that the Imp Punt and the Chili Bean Bomb work in the same way, most notably their area of effects. If they don't then I think they should be made to be the exact same in damage and area of effect.
I would just like to know that they work the same and that all my deaths due to Imp Punts have been really unlucky, or that there is a change to both the Imp Punt and the Chili Bean Bomb so that they do the same thing as each other (damage and area of effect).
The part where you say you've taken damage from an Imp Punt while airborne is familiar to me because I'e had exactly the same thing happen to me with Chili Bean Bombs- I've never noticed it with Imp Punts because they have a shorter "fuse" whereas the Chili Beans tend to roll around for a bit longer.
After it happened to me once I paid more attention and I've been able to work out how the area of effect seems to work and it doesn't seem that it has anything to do with one necessarily having a larger coverage area than the other but rather how that area is shaped.
For both, if you can get an object between you and the explosion you get some protection, and the same can be said if you are standing on a higher or lower level; both make sense and it's a logical way for it to work; the funny part happens when you're jumping and it's easier to see it happen with the Chilis because of their longer fuses but common sense would say that the same happens with Imp Punts.
If you're playing a character with a greater than normal jump, like Super Brainz for example, and a Chili Bean Bomb rolls your way it's natural to think that if you jump you'll get yourself out of the explosive radius since you assume that it's a bubble shape; only when you're way up in the air you still get blown to bits anyway.
As near as I can figure the explosion damage is applied not as a bubble but as a column so in the case of characters leaping high in the air if their actual position on the ground would otherwise cause them to take damage they will still take the damage regardless of what vertical height they are in their jump.
So basically the game seems to consider where you'd be standing on the ground when the blast goes off and whether or not you'd be effected and completely ignores the vertical height of your jump.
It is true that the Imp Punt gives you less time to get away, which means that you're less able to move the horizontal distance necessary to survive but the same mechanics seem to exist for the Chili Bean; if you can't move horizontally enough to survive then jumping won't help at all.
All in all my opinion is that the situation is more of a need for the explosion physics to be tweaked in general to account for the vertical distance of the character in danger in addition to the horizontal distance from the detonation more than it calls for the Nerfing of one ability or the other.
