In case anyone is interested. I had that same issue and did what ExLo05 suggests here:
I had the app's language set to Spanish. I switched it to English. I reinstalled the game (plants vs zombies) and it finally worked well

I have been told that the game has "been sunset" and therefore they cannot grant the game. Then again, their "support" has told me many, many different things along this journey that has become an endless circle of nothingness. They even tried to tell me that I didn't purchase it through Origins, and I need to contact the retailer where I purchased the game - even though I have sent all the proof that I bought it directly from the EA website, after the switch from origins!
I guess they messed up their software, somehow even messed it up in a way that they cannot step back, and now are not able to fix it.
I just don't understand why EA isn't simplky investing a little bit more money to make their customers happy. Eventually that would higher their profit margin cause happy customers buy more.
With EA having such issues, people preferr buying things elsewhere instead.
(Though to say: I haven't bought the PvZ. Somewhen they gave it out for free.)
