Summarize your bug I tried to play Plants vs. Zombies and it opened up an old Origin style windows says Could Not Activate. Both sign in and Enter Product key does not work. I bought the game years ago. I tried repair and reinstall and it is still the same.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I tried to play Plants vs. Zombies

I have this exact same error in Plants vs. Zombies and I've tried repair and reinstall.
Interestingly I have a similar looking error with activation in Dragon Age: Origins
"Invalid license. Reason code = Missing DLL: [NxCharacter.dll] Error: 0x7E"
I highly suspect the errors in these two games relate to the same failure with activation features but the error reporting is reporting differently in the client.
Same problem, and error occurs after clicking Enter Product Key.

I have the same issue.
So I was downloading an update to the Sims 4 today - using the EA app of course.
Decided to launch Plants vs. Zombies - been a while but whilst waiting ....
Trying to launch the game it wouldn't and I was told to enter a product code.
Odd but OK I had the product code so entered it.
App then said I was off line and the app was not connected to the internet.
Tried reboot, restart computer, the EA app repair function; cleared the cache etc, - no joy. EA App declared I was still off line.
Then the app completed downloading the Sims update and I launched the game ....... despite the app being offline.
Motto: The Sims community is larger that the Plants vs. Zombies community and when the app breaks they EA a lot more stick.
Clearly the app was not offline, something has been broken in the app when it comes to launching Plants vs. Zombies.
Sigh
I emailed the incompetent and lazy things because they put up barriers to turn off instant messaging. That button doesn't even click. After an hour of repeatedly verifying that I bought the game, the nappies told me that the problem was widespread, that there was no solution, that it was already being viewed, and that they didn't know when or if there will be a fix. i have had the same issue. played the game last night and now it is not working.
it says to put in key.
thats already been done.
it says no internet...not true.
is there any fix to this???????
Same issue. Had it for years and this week it started asking for a registration code, which it won't allow me to enter.
I got on with support and they walked me through clearing the cache, repairing, and reinstalling the game. No joy.

the game does not start since changing from Origin to EA-App.
Now i have a complete new computer with Win11 and freshly installed the game via EA-App and it still does not start.
The Error is on german but it is something like "PVZ GotY can not be activated for this Origin Account on this computer"..
Then it provides a button for the serial number but pressing it says i have no internet Connection..
i added the game to the library via a complete new serial number for this game but still does not work.
As mentioned in another thread i delete the content of "C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EA Services" and repaired the Game and restarted EA-APP but the problem persists..
Any additional ideas?

Community ManagerI just ran into this problem myself. I had not played this game in a while now (my local save and cloud save were both the same date: Jan 3 2022) so I'm sure it was last played on the older Origin App. When I tried to start it I ran into this issue. The games catalog (the "buy" area) says it's in my library.
I'm hoping it's not a case where EA figures the game is so old now it's not worth bothering with coming up with a solution.
