Re: Is PVZGW2 dying?

Great post Superjesse124. I would say you summed things up quite well. No one will always be happy with everything and what we see across all of the forums is that people will complain to the Devs to change this or change that. While feedback is good and helps them to work out any bugs that people have, I agree that Popcap needs to resist changing a character so fast because a handful complain on a forum. I also agree on BBQ corn and citron. Love the game, but I think there are a few things still left unbalanced. But I am confident that Popcap will keep trying until they do finally achieve a great balance for all characters...at least I hope so.

Well, I can't find any players in multiplayer. Is it because nobody is playing this game anymore? I just bought this game yesterday...

when there is a community portal up the size of people playing normal multiplayer suffers greatly so thats most likely what you are seeing also the time of day also has a factor :P granted tho a huge chunck of the communty did go back to gw1 since the zombopolis update and even more during the whole hit detection bug that took MONTHS for popcap to fix

The one thing I hate the most about GW2 is something I'm both very sensitive and angry about: the Always-On DRM and persistent online connection required to play games like GW2. It's something I'm against the most because Online-Only games offer no freedom when it comes to playing the game. If you have a bad internet connection, and you can't play the game, what are you going to do? People just want to play the game, but they can't because of that stupid, unnecessary restriction. This seriously damages our freedom with videogames. I should know, because I'm against that restriction dear-heartedly.

If GW3 were ever to be made, the dev team must NOT impose the same Always-On restriction that GW1 and GW2 suffer from. If the dev team wants GW3 to be the best game ever in the trilogy, the Always-On restriction should NEVER set afoot whatsoever.

Umm, did you stop and realize that all your data has to be retrieved and is saved in the servers to begin with?

Nope. Can't find a single player in that portal either.

So people are now going back to GW1? Will I find people there in the multiplayer mode? I will be playing on PC unless there are a lot more player in PS4.

So are the reason why nobody is playing this game anymore is because the chaotic character balance problem and the horrible RNG? I just downloaded GW1 and to my surprise I actually found matches for both coop and PvP. Does this mean that GW1 has better balance between characters?

The always on DRM is a good thing there. To allow offline play means to allow save games stored with the clients, which opens them to hacking and all sorts of nasty side effects. Does nobody remember the problems with Borderlands 2? People were hacking their saves to max their characters, give themselves modded weapons which they could dupe for other players, etc. Imagine encountering a low level player in GW2 with every class unlocked and every character maxed, every customization unlocked, etc. There could be other side effects too. There was this BL2 situation on 360 where hackers modified their saves to enable a flag, which also spread itself virally through the community, and any player joining a match with anyone affected by this could easily find their entire game progress wiped.

This is a MP focused game with the ability to play solo, however it's clearly MP focused. I understand wanting to play it while servers are down, however if the goal is to voluntarily stay offline most or all of the time then I'd suggest getting a different game. The vast majority of players in a game like this will be online, and having saves stored on the server keeps the community safer from exploits like BL2 suffered.

There was an NFS game on PS4 which was always online, and afaik it was a SP focused game, so I'm not sure why it needed to be always online. I wouldn't support that choice in a game like that, but for GW2 and GW3 it's the right thing to do.

If you are finding empty lobbies in PC then you will definitely be more players on PS4. I play GW2 pretty much every day and have no problems finding full or nearly full teams for almost any play mode.

you havnt watched any youtube videos on gw2 have you? people have been caught using damage boosting mods in gw2 people have shown they can data mine the game and discover stuff thats not even released yet but its in the game ready for it being always online doesnt protect the game anymore then having it save to your console if someone wants to put a virus in the game itll be 10x worse cause itll be on the servers instead of attached to 1 person that you HAVE to be in a game with to have its package unload

What platform(s)? PC I assume? Good luck getting that software running on release PS4's and XB1's. I guarantee you that keeping saves on the server is safer than leaving them with every client. If you can't understand why, well.... I don't know what else to tell you. All you have to to is look at something like Destiny and Borderlands 2. And I wasn't talking about a virus like the way you're thinking it is.

Really!? So why is the PC server so empty? Hackers?

I haven't played any online multiplayer game on PS4 since Destiny. You still need the PS Plus subscription to be able to play online, right?

I play on PC and never have issues finding games, even in Cats vs. Dinos which I know a lot don't like much. I focus on Turf Takeover mostly for normal MP games but I had no issue with the other mystery portal games either. As an important point to this, I don't see the same people all the time either which I did when I was playing Battleborn, now that's a game that is dying, at least on PC.

I have no idea how many people play or have played at peak but this at least indicates to me that people are playing frequently which is great.

Edit: I do want to address the key situation however. The first week I got no key but got them all in the following 4 mystery portal events and got the 2 new characters over this weekend. Some people don't have many or any keys at all and this is a brick wall from them enjoying the new content in full.

The trials themselves can be viewed as the challenges to acquire the new characters rather than the RNG for the keys so perhaps changing the key rate in the red chest to 100% till you have all 4 would be best for the community.

  • I play PC exclusively and ALWAYS have trouble finding people in games other than Turf and Herbal. You simply can not find people in VC, Gnome, Sub, Mixed Mode, etc. If you choose a European server you might have a slim chance at a Mixed Mode once in awhile but that's about it. It's Turf and Herbal only...never get to play the other game modes. And yes we go back and play GW1 a lot too. I even started a new file just to unlock everything all over again for kicks. Fun getting to do Taco bandits again and the rest. I wish folks on PC would play the other modes once in awhile since we do have the challenges on the board for most of them.

I had the same issue in GW1 though too. G&G was almost always a short delay if not instant, mixed mode often had a slight delay, the other modes could be very lightly populated. there were times I wanted to play Taco Bandits and couldn't get a pop besides the 'solo' pop where I was the only player there and had the 'waiting for players' message on my screen. Like most I prefer TT over them all but I do like to mix them up and get some gnome bomb, suburbination, etc. in as well, but its been like this the whole time essentially.

For the quests I often go for private games vs bots and/or with friends to get them done. It's more fun against other players but private games give instant pops.
