I had the exact problem and FINALLY found out the problem. In the plants ¨backyard¨ or ¨home¨ area, DO NOT go to the multiplayer portal. That is strictly for online playing. Instead go to the portal/hub called ¨SPLIT SCREEN¨. This is your only option for offline playing with only 2 players on 2 connected controllers.

- Again, we're NOT asking about offline play with a split screen. After setting up an account for my wife and doing local split screen yesterday, I am trying to play solo online multiplayer. No split screen, I am the only player on this Xbox. Same error message, even though she's not even logged in. It just tells me "You or a member of your group does not have the correct permissions to access online features." I was fine two days ago, so what do I need to do to be able to play online?
I think I'd escalate this to the online help desk.

If you have any account on your xbox that is for a child it will not work. Also once the child account has been set up there is no way of changing it to an adult. The date of birth is permanent. I contacted Microsoft direct and they would not change the dates.
The solution is to remove the child accounts. I set up new ones for my kids and gave then new dates of birth. I have hence stepped up and taken responsibility for my own children instead of leaving it to Microsoft. It is not a brilliant fix as the child will loose their gaming score however i believe it is the only fix.
This it i think will happen with all EA games.
